I know, different beasts. Bear with me.
I recently jumped ship from pizza guns (Beretta 92) to a w. German P226, which is fantastic for me. I learned a hard lesson with the Beretta though, have a backup - I sent a tiny little spring across the room into neverland that put the gun out of action for a week waiting for a replacement.
So, My first gut reaction is to find another W. German P226 and build a clone - one to carry, one to train. I have multiple internal extractors, take down levers, and small parts, so anything that uses these parts can be supported.
My second reaction is the P228. It seems to be a holy grail to most I talk to, and I'm a believer in the law of commonality (common things are common for a reason). Add in that my support parts and carry gear will also work, and that's a bonus. My P226 mags can work as my reloads.
Then my third reaction is that the P228 isn't that much smaller than the P226, and the P239 isn't that much smaller than the 228 - but it is smaller than the 226. The slightly shorter and thinner grip can make a difference in the effort to conceal. Downsides are my support gear wont' work - new spare parts will have to be ordered, mag carrier and holsters won't work. That adds a lot to the price equation.
Not interested in a P225, although I loved my first one, it went down the road for support problems, and not offering anything a P228 can't do the same or better. No, I"m not interested in striker, single action, or other brands. No matter what, 9mm will be utilized for ammo consolidation/storage purposes.
So, for those of you with a P228 and a P239, or extensive experience with both, what say you?
