Mec Gar 15 round and 18 Round P226 Magazines

Just picked up a P226 Enhanced Elite yesterday and the guy behind the counter highly recommended the 18 rounders as being absolutely reliable.

Are they or am I better off with 15 rounders?

I have 12 of the 18 round mags and have never had a problem out of any of them.

Flash, basically difference is redesigned follower. Mec Gar uses same follower on the 20 rounder, with a +2 Floorplate.

It depends on if you want a steel floorplate or not, as the 15 still uses the steel, or "padded" floorplate. AFAIK the 18 rounder will have a synthetic floorplate.

I've run Mec-Gar's 18 round flush fit mags in my p226 and M9 almost exclusively.

They are very reliable, and 18+1 is amazing!

I've tried and used the following P226 magazines.
Sig Sauer 20 round
MecGar 10 round
MecGar 15 round
MecGar 17 round
MecGar 18 round
MecGar 20 round

They've all worked fine.Only issue I've had is the Mecgar 18 round that had a enlarged floorplate. Since I primarly use a X-6 with magwell I had to sand them down to fit. But aside from that I wouldn't think twice getting some more of them.

(That reminds me I need to get a few more).

I take it those are the 18 rounders in your pistol in the pictures? They're not much longer than the 15 rounders.

The only advantage the 15 rounder has over the 18, is the protruding foot to aid in extracting a stuck magazine.

I've never had a problem with my 18 round mags.

Yes, the 18-round Mec-Gar magazines are totally reliable - I've used four of them for a couple years and they function fine.

Yes, 18+1 rounds of 9mm and barely any larger than the 15 round magazines.

Only complaints I've seen are that the springs in SIG Checkmate mags are thinner and thus more "rungs" / spirals and it compresses on itself differently...

That and there are a few polymer replacements from what was formerly metal... but the plastics are more sturdy and impact resistant than previous (phosphate?) metal internals, so it's a loose debate at best.

I'd prefer metal everything, but they don't sell each part individually from Mec Gar, like just springs or just *snaps fingers* the jibby job that the first round in a mag goes against... derp. What the spring is pushing up... blasphemy.

Anyone know where they sell those parts piece by piece?

I'd sooner just replace back what SIG replaced recently and give it a try just to satisfy all our combined curiosity.

I would go with the 20 rounders myself as I have a TACOPS version and I like the mag well skirt.
