Took the plunge yesterday on a new p220 Stainless Elite. Very eager to spend time with a .45. I have a p5 Walther in 9mm, and an X5 p226 in .40.

Any tips from p220 veterans on ammo, accuracy, care?

I typically use either Winchester White Box or Blazer Brass. I've used the Federal in the maroon box that Walmart sells, but it wasn't as consistent. As far as accuracy, my P220 can shoot more accurate than I can shoot it. I've left one hole 5 shot groupings without issue. The only modification I have made is, I replaced the factory grips with the Hogue rubber grips. I'm planning to change the sights with night sights. Congratulations on your new purchase!

My P220 seems to like anything I can cram into the magazines. For range, I buy whatever is available and cheap. For self defense loads, I use any premium 230 gr. JHP--right now that's Golden Sabers or Ranger-Ts.

The Stainless Elite should do real nice in 45. I've had no problems with any ammo in my 220.

Thanks! I found Ranger Talon HP at Cheaper Than Dirt for <$26! So I will shoot up the White Box flat nose and shift to HP. So far am enjoying the weight. I don't have to worry about it dangling from a belt all day, but the all stainless construction helps tame the recoil...or at least it seems that way. Fun to shoot.

100 rounds of WWB today, and several 8 round magazines full that fit <4 inch circle. I think I am going to like it!

I hope you like your P220 as much as I like mine. I have shot just about every type of ammo I can find in my P220 Carry. I have not had an issue. It shoots everything well. I'm extremely pleased with mine.

Mine is a German 1996 build, and it's never had a problem with any ammo. I haven't tried any steel or alloy cased rounds though.

What kind of grips do you have on your P220? They really set the pistol off and look very nice.

The grips are the ones that came from SIG fifteen years ago.

The new one has stippled rosewood. The color is pretty against the matte stainless steel. A burl walnut would be pretty, too.

The stainless versions of the P-series are great guns. My 220s are very accurate and ammunition, whether ball or defensive, has never been an issue. I use Slide Glide on the rails and have not had a function issue of any type.

Congratulations and enjoy your new Elite...Sig Marine (Certified Sig Armorer)

That's how the factory grips looked like before they started putting "Sig Sauer" on their grips. I have an older P220 and a made in Germany P226. They both have those grips.

The current SIG pebbled grips really work perfectly in my opinion. I also prefer the way they look to the fancier grips.
