Cool Soon to be sig SP 2022 owner

I purchased a new sp 2022 at my local gun shop and I should be getting on Christmas eve. And I am so excited to get it in my hand and go to the range. This is my first handgun purchase ever and never shoot handgun but shoot before a rifle. I guess I'm trying to get some tips and advises as far as maintenance, type of ammo, recommended accessories, and etc. I got an extra mag already, I plan on buying laser light combo but I don't know which one yet. All tips, comments, and advises will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Congratulations on your purchase!!! As for practice ammo, I will typically buy Winchester White Box, Remington UMC, or Federal... usually its whatever Walmart has in their shelves.

Congratulations on your pruchase. When you get it clean it, lube it, and then enjoy, repeat. WWB or Blazer 115 FMJ ammo should work fine. Be safe.

Cool

Thanks for the reply guys. I really appreciate it. I can't wait till I get it and probably go to the range after christmas. I am also left handed so it will take me a lot of practice to know this gun well. Is there a break in time on this gun? Also what kind of targets should I get and I know most people shoot at 25 yards is that right?

As far as break in, generally none is required. With some pistols however some break in (use only, no special procedures) is required to get to smooth function of springs and mags.

As far as targets go 90% of my practice is at 7-15 yards using a 50ft timed and rapid fire pistol target. The colored portion of the target is about 3" in diameter. I personally find that if the target center is too big, it is harder for me to keep focus.

I too have purchased a SP2022 this month. I love it as I know you will love yours too. Mine is extremely accurate. What ever I put the sights on a hole will appear. Anything less than that is ME not the gun. Congrats on your new purchase and you couldn't have found a better forum to talk about it at. These guys are great and very helpful and informative.

Oh ok that sounds great. I am just trying to get an idea should I be shooting at on my first range visit with this gun. I know most of the ranges sell this targets but really just preparing as much I can coz I am just excited to go start with this gun.

Congrats.

I recently bought the same model pistol in 9mm and have put roughly 1000 rounds through it. I swapped out the plastic guide rod with a Stainless Steel guide rod early on (personal pref) and have noticed no issues with functionality or wear & tear.

Ammunition for the range is Federal or Winchester White Box whichever is cheaper or in stock. I save a buck a box on the Federal when it is in stock at the local Walmart.

Depending on your location and range/local rules target selection is entirely up to you. Twenty-five yards is standard at any range I have visited although I shoot at targets ranging from 5 ft. out to 25 yards and shoot right or left handed because you just never know.

Enjoy your new firearm.

My preference is Corrosion X. I've been using it for the past 6 years and have been very happy with the results. I've tried some others such as Break Free, but I keep going back to the Corrosion X.

I use Break Free CLP as well as using Barricade on all of my firearms.
Just my personal pref. as everyone has their own favorite cleaning and lubricating products.

Break free to clean, regular gun oil to lubricate the internals, and Mil-Com grease on the slide rails. All of my guns still look brand new, even my 15-year old Ruger P-94 and P-95 that use "stainless" steel that is known to rust if not kept with a thin film of oil on the exterior. There really is nothing on a Sig you need to worry about as far as rust since externally they are either stainless, polymer, or aluminum. The main thing is making sure any moving parts are lubricated to minimize wear. The slide on the sp2022 is stainless.

Although, any gun that comes into contact with skin should be inspected on a daily basis and rubbed down with a silicone gun cloth at the end of the day.
