Bought a P228

Just bought a P228 in average condition with 3 mags for $325. Did I get a decent deal? Is there anything I need to check on this pistol for wear etc? Are there any springs etc that typically wear and need replacing? I haven't shot it yet, but hope to get a chance to shoot it tomorrow.

Welcome to the forum.

Post a pic so that we may admire it! Main area for wear are the rails, how do they look?

If it were me, I would give it a good cleaning, lube, and get a spring kit. The spring kits can be purchased from Top Gun Supply.

I look at TGS first for any parts that I need. Great prices and excellent customer service.

Man if the rails are in good shape as the other posters cited then you got a great deal. The p228 I pick up fron a pawn shop cost me $500 with two mags. I not complaining as it was in as great as shape as yours appears to be but I could have used the extra cash for mags and ammo, enjoy.

Reliable- What springs would be included for the typical (220/226/228/229) sig and where would a novice get hands on instructions for changing them out?

•Recoil Spring
•Trigger Bar Spring
•Slide Catch Lever Spring
•Decocking Lever Spring
•Inner Roll Pin
•Outer Roll Pin
•(4) Grip Screws

those are included in the Spring replacement kit from Top Gun.

And thats a good video to learn how to do it. It is the video I used when I first attempted it.

Smith3466- Much obliged! Great video. Is there another that shows the reassembly? I only have 300 rounds thru my 229 so I'm a ways from needing to replace springs, but I would like to disassemble the frame periodically for thorough cleaning and lube. What frequency would you recommend?

This is a nicely detailed write up of disassembly as well with some good still photos. At the bottom of the first page, there is a maintenance schedule.

I cannot verify them as fact, but it looks like a good starting point.

As for reassembly, just type that into youtube. there are many nice videos out there for that.
