It shouldn't be a hobby...it should be a way of life!

Look into the E2 grips. They're somewhat smaller and you can get them on both the P226 and P229.

As a couple of others have chimed in, and mentioned both the newer P225A1, older P225, or P239, in 9mm. Smaller single column grip size, or as brought up by SlySleuth, the installation of E2 grips on a 226/229 for smaller circumference.

I realize your pain in exposing your better half to the joys of shooting, in your present location. How far are you from one of the surrounding "free" states? Just because you cannot purchase a handgun from a neighboring state, I don't think it precludes you from trying out a few at rental ranges, AFAIK.

G.A.S. has multiple levels of severity.

I suffer greatly from Gun Acquisition Syndrome & Guitar Acquisition Syndrome.
G.A.S. has wreaked havoc on my bank accounts, and everything I've read says there is no known cure.

You can only subside the symptoms by feeding the syndrome.

Good luck!

I know that some ranges in Iowa allow you to rent a gun without having a "Permit to Purchase" or a "Conceal Carry Permit".

Decided on this

https://www.sigsauer.com/store/1911-stx-full-size.html

Got the itch for a 1911.

Shot a sig 1911 a week or so ago and it was fun.... Looked around and saw a few nice looking used stainless models ( one full sized ..No rail. And the other a 1911 C3 with awesome rosewood grips ... It looked pretty much brand new!)

The prices were great.. About $800 for the full sized and about $720 for the C3.

Was all set to get the C3 when I saw the STX in the cabinet at Cabela's..... Oh man... She is beautiful!

It also felt so nice in my hand!

It was on sale... About $100 less than retail.

I've seen some on line for a bit less but they would not budge...I still got what I feel is a decent price.

Get to pick it up Tuesday..I cannot wait!

Only problem is Cook county has a high sales tax rate.. And a $25 per gun " fee"....

I also was buying about 500 rounds of 45 ammo when the clerk told me there was a 5 cent per round tax... Oh my!!!!

I said no thank you and left the ammo there...

I bought my ammo cheaper.. Less sales tax and without the surcharge at a store closer to my house...

Cannot wait!

Enhanced Elite has narrower grips for just such an occasion.

Start your wife off with a .22lr pistol and you will thank yourself later. Making the experience fun and enjoyable is what its about. If there is too much noise, recoil and she can't hit anything it may turn her off. She may not even realize it. Unless of course she is just a natural then all bets are off! A Browning buckmark or Ruger MK IV is what I would look hard at. Also an air rifle and air pistol are not bad ideas. Especially if you can shoot them in your back yard at home. Makes practice easier and she might not like that feeling that everyone is watching her. Good luck!
