Bumper et al,

That's the scheme for saving since 1992 I've used. My late wife and I paid off our house and cars. We paid cash for everything since. When we moved back to Ohio, the Real Estate agent didn't know what to do, since she didn't ever have anyone pay cash for a house. My advice is "pay yourself first" then everyone else. Have cash on hand and a minimum bank balance. Live below your means and you will get ahead much faster.

Another vote for a P226

While I appreciate the encouragement to pay off my Visa, I want to mention that our mortgage, vehicles and most other debts are gone. I have our Visa, a small tractor payment and an extended line of credit currently that we use for big home projects. I don't think I'm a slave to debt by any means and I take on only what I can easily handle. Throughout my life I've used credit responsibly and have never failed to pay my bills. I thanked the person who mentioned it would be a good idea to pay off the Visa and not impulse buy a firearm with it, but I don't feel this fun chat about buying guns should turn into lectures about personal finances.

I am sorry if my comments made you believe I was chastising you in any way.
I was just giving some grandfatherly advice. At my age I also believe that I can share my life experiences with others.

Living debt free and living the SIG life is my way of life. I am not preaching.

If you are ever in South Florida with your family sent me a PM. I'll make sure you and yours will have a good time. Great beaches, parks, casinos, entertainment, year round outdoor ranges, golf courses, boating.

Ha! No worries man. I did appreciate the prompt to pay off my small Visa balance, but like I said, I am in no way a slave to debt. I'm also 69 years old and am used to giving fatherly advice to my three sons.

I had a three decades long hobby of restoring classic British motorcycles. Now that was an expensive hobby! Dropping thousands on those was much more of an extravagance. In comparison, buying a few guns seems like a drop in the bucket to me. But now that I'm retired I do have to watch the $$ a little closer.

I enjoyed hearing about different types of Sigs, and was just trying to redirect the thread back in that direction.

We will be going South this fall, but probably no further than the Carolinas. If plans change, I'll drop you a line. I appreciate the invite.

I hope we didn't scare people away. I have to do something while I wait for the P220 Legion to hit the market...
