Friends don't let Friends sell their Sig to a Gun Shop

Told a buddy of mine I was thinking of moving my Sig P320 and he offered me a hundred more then the best deal I could get at the gun shops in my neck of the woods. Nothing for nothing, but I am glad to have the folks I know because they almost always are around to give friendly advice, help you with a project, and/or know a deal too good to pass on... They are sort of like my extended family here at Sig Talk, just some are a bit less on the Salty side of life.

Sig P320 9mm LNIB, 5 - 15 round magazines, Gray Gun Curved trigger and O.E.M. trigger if owner wants to reinstall original trigger. I would like to keep it but I already have two other 9mm's. So I decided that I liked my Legion P229 and my West German Sig P226 just a bit more.

Gun stores don't give much for used guns.

If you must sell one, sell it FTF with a private party to get the most $$$$.

Gun stores need to turn a profit when they resell, so expect low ball offers from gun shops. As stated, selling privately would be ur best bang for return.

Best buys

Some of the best deals I have gotten on used Sigs were from people trying to sell them to a gun shop, and the gun shop not wanting them. Have picked up 226's for as low as $400 that were new in the box. 229's in 40 that the people bought and couldn't handle the round, I have paid as little as $350 for very lightly used. I always ask the owner at the shop before I make an offer, but he has never said no. Why I always carry $5-600 in cash with me when I go to the range.

I picked up a decent AK from a guy at a gun shop one day. He was trying to trade it in and the owner just didn't want it because he already had plenty in stock. The guy really had his eye on something there he wanted but needed to move the AK. He wanted $400 but I only had $300 on me at the time. I didn't need the AK and politely told him that since I really didn't need it and only had $300 on me that was the best I could do. I ended up walking out with the rifle and a wallet that was $300 lighter.

I'd have jumped on that one and I don't like AKs.

Most folks would like to get close to what they paid for their gun. A shop, #1, would be stupid to pay close to retail- they certainly aren't going to pay more for it than what they can buy a brand new one for wholesale price. And #2, they have to turn a profit. So, it is just business that they don't pay what most people want to get for their gun. Selling one straight out is the best way to get the most money, but that takes time, patience, and possibly a safety risk. My favorite LGS pays typical for used guns, but they do offer some great discounts for a trade. Sometimes, it is worth it.

Which is how it played out in the end. I just got home from transferring the gun to him at a local gun shop so all is legal and I know it is going to a good home where the buyer is not only a friend, an NRA member, a concealed carry permit holder, but may one day married to my niece since they have been going out for the past six years.
