P226 navy

I have a chance to get a used P226 Navy, on consignment, at a gun shop near my home.

Price is so low I don't was to pass it up. Gun is described as "pristine condition", 3 mags, case, etc.

My question is: Is the Navy edition different than a MK 25??

Or are they both one and the same? The case sticker reads: P226R-9-Navy.

Smarter, more educated people will likely be along shortly to give you som good information.

Until then, I'm fairly certain they are different. Obviously they are both P226 models so they aren't that much different. I think the original Navy models use the proprietary Sig rail on the dust cover. Not sure of what else is different.

Is this what you are talking about? It's a Mk-25 Navy (P226 Tactical)

No, he's referring to the earlier Navy model. Pre MK25.

Actually, after a quick google image search, it appears the P226 Navy doesn't have any sort of rail on the dust cover.

But the one you mention says P226R-9-NAVY. I think that means it has a rail.

Sig and all of their variations can be confusing sometimes.

sigsrok, I felt initially that sigmpx2017 was no doubt correct, but then I "googled" "Sig P226 navy edition" on Bing and found some interesting things. Agreed, you can't believe everything you see on the internet, but after finding these items, after reading what you had found makes me wonder.

I'm not a P226 historian, but have seen several 'pre-Mk25' Navy 226s. Most of these guns were stickered P226-9-NAVY, and had no rail. This OP's P226R-9-NAVY should have a rail, given the 'R' in the model number. I have seen a 226 originally sold as a european model that had Sig's proprietary rail.

If the gun really is in great shape - she should be a good'in too!

Edit - couple of 'stolen pics for ya'

Cheers

Didn't see the gun yet.

The dealer said it has 3 mags and the case sticker reads: 226R-9-Navy. I guess it has a rail. Been a SIG fan a long time. I never saw a Navy Edition 226. Just curious. I only know the MK25.

I would pounce on it. Chances are it might be worth more than my garden variety MK25 since they haven't offered the Navy model in several years.

From an older thread:

The first "Navy" was a limited editon run of 2000 weapons with the anchor, the anti corrosion coatings, a "NSW serial number prefix, SiG's then standard contrast "von Stavenhagen" sights and no rail. Note the different roll markings on the left side of the "NSW" slide; "STAINLESS" and "Exeter NH".

The second run "Navy" had the anchor, anti corrosion coatings, three dot contrast sights and was mounted on a frame with SiG's proprietary rail.

The current run "Navy" is designated the mk25 and sports the anchor, anti corrosion coatings, chrome lined barrel , SiGlite night sights and a MIL-STD-1913 picatinny rail.

The most recent iteration of the P226 "Navy" is the P226mk25 in the ever popular FDE finish designated the P226mk25 D (desert).

Thanks for everybody's input on this 226 Navy.

I will go to the shop tomorrow to examine this gun. Owner of shop said that only visible wear is on top of barrel hood, which is common. He described the SIG as being in "pristine condition".

Always question THAT description until I see it in person!

The early 'NAVY' 226 was serial prefix 'NSW' (Naval Special Warfare). Very hard to find, I haven't seen one for a long time. Several years ago I searched for month's and found one believe it or not at Cabella's 'Gun Library'.
Good luck.
