That would be bad. The shock of the 10mm recoil would make that gray paint fall off.

This past weekend, I finally got around to sanding the black/gray Piranhas I put on my P239. Now I won't get the Hogue equivalent of road-rash on my right saddlebag (that's "love handle" to you old folks).
No.. don't sand it. Just keep shooting and eventually you develope scar tissue and thick hard calluses in all the right places. Then you'll be good to go

10mm is a whole lot of hitting power. Outside of of protection from predatory wild life like bears, what is the use for this gun besides collecting or plinking at the range?

Oh, how I wish I could afford another 10mm that I don't need.

For me, this particular gun, like my two-tone model, would be entirely for range fun. Too big and heavy with too few rounds to carry.

There are some loads available that would make excellent self-defense rounds, IMHO. But if I were to carry a 10mm for self-defense, I would carry my G20 Gen 4 that holds 15+1 rounds.

old timer, you listed 3 reasons in your own post.
1). Protection
2). Collecting
3). Plinking at the range.

Mine is for #3

Hmmm...this or a Ruger Redhawk 5026 for my back country weekends now that I live in Alaska? Doing research drives me nuts. Many carry 10mm. Although I also have several hundred dollars in Cabella gift cards burning a hole in a drawer I plan and need to use on next purchase.

I personally began with a Glock 29 10mm as a backwoods carry gun for Colorado. After shooting the 29 at the range, I decided to buy the Sig TacOps 1911 10mm to develop loads for more comfortable shooting. The 29 is not much fun to shoot 100-200 rounds at the range... I now trust the TacOps so much more after 500 rounds through each - way more confident and accurate. With 200 gr hard cast, the 10mm is quite a force in the lower 48 for critters. I take the TacOps every range visit I enjoy shooting it so much. I still have my HK VP9SK/M11-A1 for 9mm concealed carry. Also have a Sig Legion 226 SAO for home protection. Just different purposes.

With 15+1 rounds of (probably) any of the following, I think I would be well armed for self-defense. The tests I've seen of the 180gr JHP Gold Dots at 1300 fps and 676 ft-lbs were impressive.
  • Underwood 135gr JHP, Nosler bullet, 1600 fps, 767 ft-lbs
  • Underwood 155gr JHP, Hornady XTP, 1500 fps, 774 ft-lbs
  • Underwood 165gr JHP, Gold Dot, 1400 fps, 718 ft-lbs
  • Underwood 180gr JHP, Gold Dot, 1300 fps , 676 ft-lbs

For me hunting and personal protection, it's not too heavy for carry and I have some nice Kramer holsters for mine. 10mm can handle most jobs in 8 or 9 rounds, I like and shoot my Sig and S&W 10mms better than the Glocks.

If I still had the health to enjoy the woods, I would carry it in a chest rig.

But down here, I would still have to carry something with a lot more bullets - for when I hear those banjos start playing.
