226 grip prices

I'd been doing some searches for a variety of 226 parts. When I came across some prices for the older checkered grips, I thought I may have misread something. These seem to be pretty difficult to come by. Secondly, if you find them, you can expect to pay upwards of 150$. I've got a variety of grips for my 226, including the checkered ones. Are they really that sought after? I guess that they aren't manufactured anymore could have something to do with it.

Older checkered aluminum grips are highly valued. Yeah, expect to pay that much, or more.

just curious

Would the Legion GIO 226 grips fit? Those grips are one of the top 4 reasons I bought the gun because of how good it fits my hand.

Is Yours an older Model?
Back a few months ago I ran across some Nil Walnut Grips on Ebay and purchased a set for about $75.00. I posted about them and several Sigtalk Members did the same. I have an Equinox Model and they fit perfectly.

If you're talking about the older '80s & early '90s factory checkered polymer grips, they can actually sell for that kind of price on some of the auction sites.

There was a set of '96 dated P226 grips on eBay a few days ago for $150, but they didn't sell until he dropped the price to $130. The seller is apparently sitting on a pile of old take-offs or NOS and puts them up for sale with BIN, one set at a time.

Yea those are the ones. Must be nice to have a bunch of them at his disposal. I've got a set of them that I haven't had on the pistol in years. I change mine every so often for a new feel. I just wasn't aware they went for that much.

It's probably much like when I was an armorer for the department I was on. Many of the officers opted for the Hogue rubber grips, when they came out with the finger groove front straps. I installed them on their issued pistols, but I also gave them their OEM grips to put into the factory boxes since the guns belonged to the department, but the Hogue grips were theirs. When the department traded in the 9mm P226s for railed .40s, I wasn't involved in the swaps, so there is no telling what was on the 9mms when they went to the LE distributor. Just as noticeable, on Gun Broker, on a lot of the former LE guns on the market, had Hogue grips! Makes you wonder where all the originals went?

It all boils down to supply and demand! When supply is non-existent, and demand high... prices go up!

I bet those grips are coming from a situation like that, Willard. Most of what he sells are grips and magazines for the P220 & P226. He has them for the P225 occasionally too.

I've purchased several sets of like new P220 grips from him over the last year for $30 or so, but they are the smooth textured '97 to '07 dated versions. Most people don't like them because they don't think they are grippy enough, so they don't command higher prices like the checkered ones.
