WOW, guess I NEED to make a visit to Gander! Although I'm a 40 fan, I've been shooting EVERYTHING else for the past year (except 9's), developing loads for 357 Mag., 357 Sig., 10mm, 44 Mag. 38 sp. and so-on. My P229 was bought used in 357sig, but ordered a 40 barrel (Bar-sto, ported) as soon as I had it. I JUST picked up a 2022 in 40 (357sig barrel ordered from sig). So at the moment putting some rounds through it, and getting more '40 time!" I feel a 40 is THE universal round, but I favor the 357SIG. Just me.

My Gander Mountain has closed up. But it had not received anything worth having for years so I never bothered going to try and get something on clearance. For the longest, the whole store looked like a thrift store. Just not thrift store pricing.

For that price, I'd pick up both the 224 and 226!

So, I'm now the proud owner of a 226 Legion and a 225-a1 but still would like to pick up a 229 in .40. The reason is the Legion and the 225 are both 9mm. I also have an M&P Shield in .40 and would like a compliment to that caliber. (For you .45 enthusiasts, I have a Les Baer 1911 that chews them up and dead accurate)

Question: I'm seeing them listed as a P229 or P229-R but I'm not sure what the difference is. Is there any?

Congrats. It used to be that the P229-R had a rail and the P229 did not, but I thought all P229s had rails now so there may not be any difference with the current models.
