Brought home a '98 P229

Well...I was thinking of getting a new one but just today an older 9MM (Ser # starts AI) came in and I like the fatter grips of the older P229. Also, with this model I can hit the mag release without shifting, whereas with the new skinnier grips, I couldn't. Strange but true. Important for quick reloads in IPSC and IDPA. I plan to shoot production in IPSC and SSP in IDPA with this piece. It's a but chunky to be considered 'concealable' but coming from a fullsize steel-framed CZ, it is a bit more compact. Mainly I like having the option of a decocker, and all the aftermarket stuff you can find for SIGs.

And seeing how much I saved buying used I got a Ruger MkIII .22 to get my wife out at the range with me (she'd shot a rented on before and liked it). But now she might want the pink Mosquito... should not have mentioned the pink mosquito.

Not much wear, none on rails, a bit on the barrel

The CZ85 Combat, great at ESP in IDPA, though a bit big and heavy...

I think you got one of the best Sigs out there. I much prefer the older grips, slide, and standard trigger over what they have recently become. Congratulations!

My 229-9mm is my go to pistol for reliability and confidence. It ALWAYS shoots well for me, even when I am having a bad day. All I can say is, it works for me.

Congrats on your purchase! I agree with you 100% I have the 229 / 40 cal. and the P238 SAS. I decided to now shop for a 220 stainless elite. Sig + 229 a winning combination.

Nice pickup and it looks great.

I have one from that vintage in .40 and it is a fantastic pistol. Myself iI prefer the looks of the classic P229.

Like my old 229 40. Was thinking could I get a 9mm barrel for it? Would it work and has anyone a recommended barrel maker?

You can shoot 9mm Para in your P229 by picking up a third-party barrel; Bar-Sto, EFK and others make 9mm barrels sized specifically for a .40SW/.357SIG P229 slide. You should also get P229 9mm mags as well to ensure proper feeding.

229 conversion to 9mm

Yogi, I looked in the Midway catalog for conversion barrels. The had semi-drop ins but no straight conversion barrels. Thought of KKM but not listed or LWD, ditto. Bar Sto is out, don't want to wait 4 months and have a smith to fit it. Suggestions and where to order from? Thanks
