E2grips? Are they the one piece? Can you change them if you don't like them?

Yes, they can be changed back to normal two piece grips.

Yepp Reliable is correct.

Or if you can find a better deal on a regular elite model, The grips can be switched to the E2s for around $50.

The main difference is the frame. The "Enhanced" Elite has an aluminum alloy frame and milled stainless slide with a "Nitron" finish. The, what's considered, standard elite is a stainless frame and slide in a brushed finish. The stainless version is about 8 ounces heavier than the alloy version. Otherwise, both weapons have the same features. As others have mentioned, grips can be changed to your liking.

'Elite' was the designation that was originally defined as having the SRT, front cocking serrations, and beavertail. The first Elites were aluminum framed 226's in 40S&W. The stainless and other models such as the 229 Elites came out later.

You can still purchase the Dark elite that has the aluminum frame and the nitron stainless slide.

For me, they both balance well. I do prefer the additional weight of stainless frames but as for many things, there are upsides/downsides. The stainless frames are made in Germany with milled stainless slides from the U.S. The extra weight helps with recoil management but at the expense of making target transitions a little more difficult but easily controllable with practice. Also, the additional weight can make concealed carry a little tiring at the end of the day, however, some don't mind the extra carry weight, it's personal preference.

Agree 100% I also like the stability factor of the extra weight while shooting. More movement in the pistol due small movements in the support (your body) is more evident in lighter pistols than in heavier pistols. Follows the laws of physics. . . An object in motion tends to stay in motion and an object at rest tends to stay at rest, Inertia. This makes aiming heavier pistols easier than lighter pistols. One must remember, though, at some point, there are diminishing returns such as the carry aspect.
