p229 or p2022?

I already own a p226 in 9mm.
I want another sig. I was thinking the p229 or the p2022 in .40.
Not going to lie, the price of the p2022 is quite appealing.
I need help deciding.

Both are fine weapons, choose the one that feels best in your hands.

I am and will always be partial to the 229. Your the one buying it, though, so get what is right for you.

Like Reliable said, both should be fine choices for you.

If money is a concern at all buy the 2022. If it is not, take a look at the 229.

I know i'd be happy with either.

I couldn't agree more.

I was on a budget so I chose the 2022, and I will buy another.

Would I buy a 229 if I could justify the cash? You betcha!

I suggest the P229, because I've shied away from polymer frames. But both have their merits, for sure.

No problem, per se. Just a personal preference.

I would highly recommend the P229 for .40 as IMO it is probably the finest .40 combat pistol there is and the extra weight really tames the recoil of the .40. The P229 was built for the .40. I also have a SP2022 in 9MM that I dearly love.

As always try out a P229 before buying just to see how it works for you and most rental ranges should have them.

I bought my P229 .40 as a CPO and they are generally available for around $575 or even less. Mine looked as new inside and out.

Summit gun brokers often has CPO P229 in .40 and often local gun stores have them.

Myself I prefer the older style P229 with the short extractor and it is an extremely proven design.

Good luck!

I have both the P229 and the SP2022... IMHO, as much as I love my P229R, if I had to pick one, I would pick the SP2022. I don't know what it is, but the SP2022 has a very nice feel to it, and the recoil is hardly any. As far as accuracy, both are far more accurate than I can shoot. Also, on sale, the SP2022 was over $400 less than the P229R.

+1 on the 2022.

2022 here. There are stories of people putting 40,000 rounds through them without a single malfunction. I have a 9mm 2022, and I swear that gun is going to shoot until the End Of Time. The 229 is good, too, though. Just your choice. One thing: the single action trigger on the 2022 is just 4 pounds - VERY light - if that's a consideration. In fact, some people use stock 2022's for IPSC competition.

I bought my first Sig a couple months ago, a SP2022 in 40 S&W and the only thing I regret is that it's a 40 S&W. I just ordered a P226 9mm and a P239 9mm from my FFL buddy. I think I will unload my SP2022 40 and pick up a SP2022 in 9mm. I already own 3 other 9mm and 5 45 ACP's but no other 40's. I do love that SP2022. But I only need 2 small bore handgun calibers to worry about.
