2022 internal extractor vs external extractor

Good morning, all.

I have been considering a 229 for my initial Sig purchase, but am also looking at the 2022. I have noticed that older models have the internal extractor, but Sig has gone to an external version. Does either type offer any benefit over the other, aside from the obvious cosmetic difference?

Thanks much for any thoughts regarding this.

Take care, and have a good day.

Welcome to the forum!

I have the new style and highly recommend it. Buy 2 of them if you can.

External extractors are more reliable, in general.

Internal vs. External extractor on Sig 2022

Have three 2022's, two with internal ext and one with external. As far as the reliability question goes...flip a coin. I am an old 1911 man and like the internal extractors. The internal ext. must be tuned correctly, factory specs on the 2022 are just fine. With the external exts there are two more pieces than the internal that can go wrong.
Take kimber for example, they went back from an external to internal on there 1911's.

This is good advice. They may not be $349 forever.

I haven't seen any evidence of one being more reliable than the other.

Try Palmetto State Armory. I saw that price yesterday. I hunt up the link for you.

Here you go.

The new external extracters are more reliable trouble free over the older internal models.

There's plenty of material to be read on the interwebs.

I know this is an old thread but I have have a question about what is mentioned above. I bought a new SP2022 two weeks ago. It is dated on the box
12 Oct 2012. It came in a cardboard box, no LCI, one mag, one extra grip and internal extractor. Is this a reboxed "older model" the serial number is 24B125XXX

This subject has been covered in several other forums but I don't believe that it is a reboxed older model. With current sales of the 2022 it is possible that Sig has caught up with the production of the "new style" slides and has had to use some of the "old style" slides that were on the shelves after they made the change. Does your 2022 have the retangular plate in the center of your picatinny rail or does it have the circular plate in the rail? Does your frame say "Made in Germany" on it? If no on both questions, then you have a "new style" frame and an "old style" slide but is probably a new production pistol.

It has the rectangular serial tag and does not say made in Germany.
Interesting. A piece mill pistol. I really like this gun it will be my conceal carry weapon. It is just the right size and fits my hand so well.

One thing I like about external extractors is their ease of removal when detail stripping.
