magazine loaders

Picked uo my Sig SP 2022 at Sportco, here in Seattle. Have not taken it the Range yet but it just feels so "Right". I've stripped it to clean it up (as per Sig) and generally familerised my self with this little beauty. In doing so one thing reared its head: What are you folks using for a magazine loader? Surly not your thumbs in that 15 round mag! I've found a couple of mag loaders that seem promising; an "HKS" and a "Uplala" Any thoughts? Also, while the grip that comes on the pistol (medium me thinks) looks identical to the extra grip (large?) when I changed them out, what a huge differance! If your 2022 feels not quite right try that extra grip!! Lastly any suggestions regarding a source for additional mags with the extended floorplate? Anyway, thanks in advance for your help!

I have used man thumbs all my life.

I have, however, begun to consider getting a loader. I have read nothing but good about the Uplula and Maglula type loaders and the appropriate one would probably be my first choice should I decide to get one.

I use thumbs. Although sometimes they wish I didn't.

I got a Uplula mag loader shortly after I got my 2022. It makes for an easy load but does take some practice to do it quickly. It will not load the final 15th round because there isn't enough space in the bottom of the mag for the little part that pushes the bullets down, to allow for the next one to fall in, to fully depress the 14th bullet. You still have to push the hardest bullet to load by using your thumb. If you just want to load 14 you can do it within 45 seconds once you get the hang of it. I mainly use it while at the range to quickly reload my 3 mags so I can get back to shooting, which is the best part.
(and the most fun)

Also if you do find somewhere that has extra magazines for sale it would be wise of you to purchase as many as you want to have because they are pretty hard to find. I got mine at Academy when they still sold Sig Sauer branded magazines and I purchased the last two that my local store had. Now they haven't had any back in stock since I got them. I believe that they started selling Mecgar brands but they don't seem to keep them in stock very long either.

I started loading my 15 rnd mags by hand ( per the SIG site video); not hard till the 14th and 15th rounds on new mags. One day at the range, having a lively session, I split (not cut) the end of my thumb; bleed on my mags and sig - not cool! Walked into the adjacent gun shop and bought an Uplula, went back and finished the session. Can't beat it for fast, volume work. I mean really! Us old guys gotta have some advantage. And I don't want to spend my precious range time feeding ammo with my thumb tip. I practice that at home.

I'm not very fast, either. But don't tell anyone.

My Uplula works like a charm. I was actually able to find my last 2 mags (12rd 40cal) at a gun show for $25 a piece, brand spanking new. My others I got off Top Gun Supply and they were pretty reasonable in price.

This exactly for me too. Minus the 45 seconds bit

I'm using the Uplula on 15 rnd mags for my 250 and 229. Getting the 15th round in is tight but it does go in with the loader. I have to push down hard on the loader then wiggle the last round in. It helps to hold the round in the mag while you slide the loader finger out.

I'LL have to try that. I just didn't want to force anything so I would just do the last round by hand.
