While the deal may have changed, SIG used to pay for shipping both ways if you spent more than $X in their custom shop; I think the Free Shipping threshold is around $250, but it's worth a conversation. Not only could you do the Sig Service Package, which nearly pays for itself with new Night Sights, you could investigate the Action Enhancement package and/or SRT kit (if this pistol doesn't already have it).
Beautiful specimen, and a few other notes: just one magazine? you might investigate current cost of supplemental inventory. Greg Cote LLC is a great source: Sig P228, P229 13 RD 9mm phosphate OEM supplier Mec-Gar MAG22813 [OEM MEC-GAR MAG22813 13 RD 9mm] - $22.95 : Greg Cote, LLC
You can always check GunBroker for comparable values, but "apples to apples" can be tough with a gun like this. For example, here's one in pretty sad shape that is probably way overpriced: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/746228604
It would be interesting to know the back-story on this pistol. How/when did your buddy acquire it, at what price, what did he know about the seller, etc. Sigs like this often have great histories, so just would be interesting to know.
Hope you guys can make a deal. It's a beautiful gun. Love the two-tone look with the nickel controls. Please keep us posted!
Thank you for this! I had looked at mags - mec gar have always given me good service. The one mag with the gun is a zipper back (?) mag which I guess is German though maybe not exact for the year of the gun. Either way I figured some newer mags would be better and save the German one.
I do think the sig service is worth the effort and cost considering itís in such good condition.
