Sig going back to old/legacy p229 slide?

I recently purchased my first sig pistol, a P229 SAS in .357 sig. I absolutely love this gun! However it's an interesting story about this gun.

This gun was manufactured on April 19th, 2012. So it's not even a month old. When looking at sig's site, I expected to receive the new slide design with long extractor and full serrations. However, when I opened the case, I was surprised to see the older slide design that many love and trust. I'll admit i was a little concerned after seeing comments of people having issues with the new slide designs chambered in .40 s&w. So I was actually happy to see it was the old design.

Second, I fully expected it to have the short trigger which the SAS comes with. Well, I was presently surprised to see it came with the standard trigger as well. I had already ordered the standard trigger to replace it, but didn't have to. The new standard triggers are chambered, or hollowed out in the back to save weight I'm sure. None of this was specified when ordered either.

So I can't help but wonder if they are going back to the old slide. Any thoughts?

BTW: New here and to Sig Sauer.

Congratulations and Welcome to the forum from Pennsylvania.

All you need now are the old grips and you'll have everything that exemplifies the quintessential Sig and the way I would like it!

Don't know for sure what is happening in marketing and I, for one, think you got a great package.

229 is my GO TO Sig. My first and all time favorite:

+1 for a very good looking 229. With the slide design, SAS and no rail, it looks to be an ideal and serious CC option. Hmmmm!

Now let's talk holster options.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on a great purchase.

I will always have a soft spot for my first handgun as well. P229 elite stainless. I had to save up a long time to get that one.

I hadn't even known about the slide update until this post. The P229 SAS looks just like a P228 with G2 grips.

Well, I have to P229R's now, one I keep at .40 and one at .357. They are identical. I'm very lucky to have them.

Thank you! I had considered other options with rails, but I wanted this to be my carry gun. And I already carry IWB with a Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe, (Natural horsehide). It fits, feels, and hides wonderfully.

Well i'm not saying this is a universal update. I'm asking that question myself, considering my gun was so new and came with the old slide.

I had read a number of issues with the new slides in .40 s&w, and wondered if they were simply correcting the problem by going back to the legacy slide. Who knows, they may be making them both and for whatever reason i got the old style...
