P226 police trade in - is it worth it?

I'm looking at a P226 police trade in with the manufacture date between 1999-2005. I'd say this pistol would rate at 90% with the usual holster wear marks on the slide, the night sights seems ok and it comes with 2 mags . The price seems reasonable at $425. The slide looks like it's US made while the frame is marked made in Germany. I'm just not sure if this is something that is going to be reliable or a money pit after the purchase. Any thoughts?

Very often Police trade in's have seen less use than most private weapons. They can be very good deals or so-so. Use the same guidelines as if you were purchasing a used pistol. Main item of interest are the rails and their condition. Most common wear is holster wear and they are often shot only at qualifications.

Sounds like a fair price as long as the rails look good. Most of the time they do on ex-police pistols as Reliable stated above.

i paid $400 for my 229 and i consider her in good condition. it needs refinishing on the frame, but shoots like a champ

The span 1995-2005 is going to make a big difference in the night sights. Tritium has a half-life of 12 years, so the sights on a gun made in 1995 lost half their brightness by 2007. A gun made in 2005 is just nearing the half life this year.

Agree with others, though on police trade-ins - less use; more holster wear.
