Rounds for Mosquito?

So I've just shot about 600+ rounds through my mosquito. 95% of them have been mini mags with a few federals. I've put one fed in the chamber followed by ten mini mags. I did get off 10 straight Feds which about 90% were effective. At what point should I start working more federals in there? And at what ratio?

I've been watching this thread out of interest. I don't know how to answer your questions, but I too am interested in expanding the diet of my Mosquito.

Yesterday I shot 100 rounds of Federal Game-Shok 40 gr CPRN through it with no issues. These rounds came in a 100 round plastic case and looked brand new.

I followed that with 100 rounds of Federal Game-Shok 38 gr CPHP. In this case, I believe I had two weak rounds - they fired, but they did not fully cycle the slide. No extraction, no hammer cock, spent round in the chamber. (Not hung anywhere.) The HP Game-Shok were purchased in two 50 round boxes and I am really confident both weak rounds came from the same box.

I hate to admit it, but I wasn't smart enough to drop the mag and check the bore until it happened the second time. Realization came a split second after pulling the trigger on the next round after the first time. Ooops.

I didn't mix mine in any ratio, just full magazines of each type until they were gone. I changed targets when I changed from RN to HP, but the "groupings" (shotgun blasts) were not different.

Another observation. Yesterday I shot on a public range. Person to the left of me was shooting one of the 1911 .22 clones, feeding it Remmington from a bulk box. (I think, box was green/yellow.) He was having "issues." Two shooters to the right of me were taking turns on a P-22, using Winchester 333 rounds, and they were also having issues, so many they just quit. I can't tell you anything about how old their guns were, or how clean, etc. but I do think it might be possible to "save too much" on ammunition with these "tactical" .22s.

Good Luck

With my mosquito I have shot pretty much only remington bulk back the golden bullet with really no issues, I have not shot any minimags through it at all. I did try Federal bulk pack and my mosquito hates its fail to feed on pretty much every shot. For me remington bulk pack is the way to go. I would give it a try if I were you I think a box is 17.99 for 525rds. Hope it works for you.

Thanks guys. Ill try some of those out. I think also you can really only go about 200 rounds at a time without having to clean it. I don't like cleaning at the range. I appreciate yalls help!

With my Mosquito, I've been shooting CCI mini-mags, as recommeded by Sig... However, Mini-mags are not cheap to shoot. I have tried Remington and Federal bulk packs with okay results. I notice the more Mini-mags I shoot, the less trouble I incur with the other brands... GOOD LUCK!!!

The newer Mosquitos actually don't say anything about mini mags or any brand name ammo. Just factory stuff.

I recently received my Mosquito and the literature only said it was test fired with Minimags. It also came with a $10 rebate on purchase of 4 boxes of minimags, which made them much more affordable.

Mosquito

Yikes. Mosquito now on 2nd trip back to Sig. First time back was as a result of almost 25 percent FTL FTE etc. Shooting "wet" did not help. One gun shop employee suggested shooting higher velocity 22s, the other advised shooting only mini-mags. Double taps almost always resulted in FTL or stovepipes. After approximately 800 rounds, I'd exhausted my patience.

Sig returned the gun after testing it by firing 40 rounds. The paperwork said they polished the rear of the barrel, apparently so the cases would eject easier. I read somewhere that perhaps the tolerances are too tight. Anyway, when I tested it, it had 1 FTF in the first 70 rounds, then a failure rate about 90 percent thereafter. Slide stuck back. Slide release not engaged - slide just stuck. I could push the slide forward, and it would chamber the next round and then fire, but would stick back again.

Took it right back from the range to the shop counter, where they sent it back again. Employee told me, "Mosquitos are 'finicky.' " I laughed and said, "You mean a piece of junk?" He laughed, rolled his eyes, admitted, "Yes," but offered that all other Sigs are great.

Looking forward to getting it back. Fun to shoot, albeit not very accurate. My small frame 38 special shoots much tighter groups. Maybe it's just me.

now that is interesting. I know they are different designs, butin my 938 lighter 9mm rounds sometimes fire, don't extract, ect. only diff is the slide tries to load another round. i bumped up to 124 grain rounds and no issues. I winder if SIG designs are made for heavier bullets? it's easier to push 38 grains than 40. I wonder if that's just enough to get the brass clear?
