New P229 Wear Question

Hey all -- guess it is my day for questions. I've put around 750 - 1000 rounds between in my new P229, and I've noticed a couple of wear patterns. There is one that in my research looks concerning, so wanted to run it by you guys. Thanks in advance!

Is this burr normal?

Images for the rest of the frame and slide next:

There's the burr again.

Wear on the rear slide seems normal here?

Thanks!

Is it white, or "stainless" colored? If white, it could be paint from your recoil spring that has "flaked" off. The slide is stainless, and the "Nitron" darkens it, so a "nick" could show "natural" stainless, but would be "in" the metal, not "on" it.

Too tough, to tell by picture, with my eyes, anyway.

It definitely looks like it is stainless colored and has slightly different edges around it as I move my finger over it. I noticed it the first few hundred rounds that I shot, but it looks like it has gotten somewhat worse as I moved towards 1000. Don't recall it being there out of the box.

In my experience that is a typical wear mark on a P-series slide and is a result of the disconnector on the trigger bar bouncing against the slide at full recoil. Here's a pic of several other slides of mine showing similar wear patterns:

Keep the slide area and top of the disconnector grease and don't worry about it.

That makes sense. I was at a loss to explain the wear other than something foreign getting into the slide, given the frame is aluminum and shouldn't wear the Nitron slide. The top of the disconnector does have some wear and lines up perfectly with the slide where the wear is on recoil, as you said. Thanks for the pics.

It appears too far forward to be from the "disconnect tab" of the Trigger Bar, shown with orange arrow, below. But looking at it again, it is around the ejection port area, so ThnkFrst is correct.

You haven't asked...yet

But when you remove your right grip panel you will probably see a similar wear mark on the horizontal edge of the frame cutout as shown in this pic (see red rectangle):

This also is from contact with the trigger bar when it bounces against the frame during recoil.
