was there suppose to be a poll? my vote is for the Remington R-1. US made, and priced to beat on the RIAs. I have over a thousand rounds through mine and nary a hiccup, though one factory mag is failing the last round.

If we're talking new 1911's, let's talk best value under $800, and that would be the SIG XO. And I believe there are a couple of other SIG 1911's for less than that also.

As for the Remington R1, you may have a good one, but there are oodles of problems reported with it. Even you say you have problems with yours. Not to mention, it is full of MIM. I would place it along side RIA and Taurus as the worst of the 1911's for any price.

I shot a Sig 1911 tonight. It was a range gun and therefore filthy by definition, but it was deadly accurate and felt great. In fact, my admiration for it was the reason I posted the original question--I wondered if there were any other 1911s this good at a similar price point.

I have a Kimber Pro Carry II that I really like. It was well under $1000.00.

A very good friend has a Sig C3 that I've shot quite a bit. I really like that 1911 also. Great trigger, feeds everything, etc.

So, those are two I've had experience with - that I liked.

Some years ago I bought one of the first RIA's around this part of Texas. It was GI all the way -- tiny sights, no beavertail to speak of - so, I would squint, and it would bite me. Went bang, fed most stuff without any problems, and would have been a great value for someone with better eyes, willing to modify the pistol. I sold it and moved on.

My Sig Nitron Rail. The more I shoot it the more I love it. Unbelievably accurate at 60 ft and just a pleasure to shoot. I have a Ruger SR1911 coming and they seem to be really good bang for the buck . It's gonna be a tough act to follow with the Nitron Rail though!!

I shot the Ruger SR-1911 side-by-side with the Sig 1911 last night. The Sig blew it away. But that was two range guns, and my hands. Could be different for you.

The Springfield Loaded looks like a tremendous value. Anyone have any experience with it, or another Springfield 1911?

There are so many great under $1000 options. One good one that is often overlooked are the Desert Eagle 1911's. Very good value for the money.

I have a
springy 1911 loaded that just squeezed in under 1k .It shoot very accurately is about all I can say. There is NO problem with the pistol it's just that I don't prefer the format. Also it's a royal pain to disassemble to clean.I have to make a concentrated effort to lock my wrist,or it will fte. No such problem with my 220's. I have to be honest and others who have shot it LOVE IT. Just not my preference.

There is a couple of choices out there, the main one that comes to mind is the Springfield. That will take you right to the edge of that 1000.00 budget. The funny thing is that you will find yourself spending more money on MAGAZINES! Wilson mags are 30 or more a piece. The other good option is SIG with the TAC series. These are the same qaulity as Springer if not better. The next you will see is the Remington, often overlooked. It is a great pistol and will hold up with the best.

I can tell you that in my time of shooting, I have transitioned from the 1911 to the 220 and saved in gunsmith bills and magazines. Just my .02 for you....

A Base USGI Springfield is a great starter to "grow" with your needs.
Mine's been modded a bit to replicate a WW-II 1911A1..and shoots great.
I think it was waay under $1000 even with all the extras.

I'm not sure what it cost, my wife bought it, but I like my Sig. Fastback Nightmare. I have several that I like that came in under $1000 that I like including My Ruger SR and a plain Jane Springfield. Which was the best deal? They all shoot right at their price point except the Ruger does better for the cost IMHO. I really like the Sig though. I handled A Remington R1 yesterday and the trigger felt as good as my Sig and was priced at $650 so that is not bad. I've heard lots of good things about it so it might go on my list of get it's.
