I had always assumed that the Elite Dark's had a beavertail and aluminum grips. Sig has been known for releasing models with different feature combinations than what is listed in the catalogues. I have not seen an Elite dark like that, BUT that does not mean that it is not an Elite Dark.

I spoke with Sig and they confirmed it is an Elite Dark and also confirmed that some were shipped without the beavertail.

If I ordered a Dark Elite and it came without a beavertail, I'd be very upset!

Actually I prefer it having the front cocking serration's and the SRT trigger which are not found on the regular 229's - so I guess its just if you like the beavertail or not

I used to be a big fan of the beavertail on Sigs but that has diminished over the years. For me, It is looks only (granted, it does look good!) and does not aid in my shooting. I can take 'em or leave 'em. It's entirely up to the individual.

My concern is that Sig simply put these Elite slides onto the frames, threw on the SRT and now selling them as Elite models. A little while back, not sure if you guys recall, but Sig was selling these complete Elite Slides as "upgrades".

Sorta make ya wonder what you get anymore. What would be the difference between a 229 nitron slide and an "elite" slide?

Whats the diff in the actual "frame" other than the beavertail?

Not like one is poly and the other is mega super titanium. Its really just the addition of some extra metal correct?

Elite slides have the front serrations. Thats it. In this case, the "Dark" Elites also come with Siglite adjustable combat sights.

You are correct....the only difference is the beavertail. That is, however, one of the characteristics of the Elite line that makes it unique. In addition, the "Dark" elites should also come with Sig Logo'd Metal grips.

Collectively speaking, all of the little differences is what makes an Elite model more unique than your standard model. When I bought my 2 Elites, those features found on the Elites are what sold me on them. That is why I said I'd be upset if I bought an Elite and got one without the beavertail.
