Question Threaded barrel change on 229...

Changed the barrel on a 9mm 229 Stainless Elite to the threaded one and now seems to be shooting below the existing sights. Was previously right on target with the prior standard barrel. Do I need to adjust the sights after a barrel change? If so, how do I keep on target when I want to swap barrels occassionally? Thanks for the feedback!

Maybe someone else knows more than I do about this, but if you haven't changed caliber, going to a slightly longer & threaded barrel shouldn't require any change to the front sight. Full frame size Sigs typically use either a #8 or a #6 front sight depending upon whether it's chambered in 9MM, or .40/357 (or .45) respectively. And there's no way to adjust for elevation unless you've installed an adjustable rear site AFAIK.

If your point of impact has changed and it's not your technique, then it's possible that the barrel tolerances are different.

My advice is to fire some groups from bench rest at the same range where you're seeing the difference now using both barrels, to rule out any changes in your shooting technique. If there's a range master or experienced shooter around, you might ask them to watch your form, or even try to shoot with either or both barrels to see if they concur with your aimpoint assessment.

In my experience, the shooter is the source of the problem more often than the gear. Usually that means me, and I have to spend some time figuring out what new failure mode I've discovered. Shooting never gets boring, that's for certain.

Thanks for your reply. Certainly seems possible that the shooter could be the problem. I'm taking both barrels to the range and doing some more precise testing from the bench rest. I'll get back with the results for all other future users. Hope it turns out to be the part holding the gun!

That's probably the cheapest part to fix. Good luck.
