German vs US made sigs

Fairly new to the site with a few post and I enjoy reading here.

The question I have is, I noticed people commenting on German made vs US made guns, which is more desirable?

The question made me go and look at my sigs. My 220 and my 245 along with my mother's 245 are all German made with night sights.

My 229 has a German frame with US slide and night sites.

Of course my 1911 Tacops and C3 is all US made.

Just curious.

Some people are dedicated to German Sigs, others are neutral. I don't have an all-German Sig, although I have had some with German frames. I've also had complete US-made models. I have had the same level of quality from both. This topic has come up before, and the general consensus is the same- both origins are quality.

No...what I tend to notice is (West) German P226, P228 and P225 types are very highly regarded (and P220s to an extent) and as such command a premium on the market. You can read-up as to why; but I, personally, see no benefit difference of one over the other, other than W Germany no longer exists (historically and supply/demand relevant) and their value just keeps skyrocketing.

I prefer the old school WGERMANY / GERMANY made guns but I'm a but of a collector. I own fifteen WGERMANY /GERMANY "P" series pistols (220/225/226/228's) and have never had a stoppage in any of them. I now also own seven American made SiG's and have not had any reliability issues or quality issues with them although the balance does seem a bit off for me with the heavier stainless steel billet slides.

American SiG's in my armory:
P220R (early American production with internal extractor )
P226R (German frame)
P226 NSW "NAVY"
P226mk25 ( three, two NIB, one with +4000 flawless rounds thru it)
P226mk25 Desert (NIB )

I agree with Hodge.
I have had 1 Swiss made 4 full German, 6 German frame and 4 Exeters, over the years. near as I can remember.
The loosest Sig I had by far was a 229 german frame 1995. The rails wore on it.
All the rest have been equally well made.

I think it comes down to inspecting close before buying. Guns are individuals.

The question in your post is which is more desirable. The answer is German.

If you had asked which is better, the answer would be no difference.

I have 6 German / west German sigs and 3 US made sigs the reason: I'm cheap I buy shooter grade guns not collector grade and if I can get a 226 for 550 that's in good shape.....I'm gonna buy that one over a new one at 850.00. I also am not not a fan of railed guns. My 229 sas is US made but no rail and I picked it up for cheap.

Some models are only going to be German (225,228). Some are only going to be US made
(227, 220 sao,) there is a small difference in weight and balance between the two.

I also like the hunt anybody can go into a shop and plunk down a chunk of change on a new sig or pay WAY to much for a nib 228. But for me finding the "great deal" is half the fun. It's how I kill time on the internet besides being on here.

The WGERMANY strain is the very worst, the strongest of the SiGness bugs out there....and yes, once bit you are in grave danger. :D

Yup, probably the best mid size /compact combat handgun ever made in terms of design, build quality, balance and shootability.

Both German and US are fine models. I just know that my new US 220 Elite SS Carry and my 220 Match Stainless Elite (MSE) had to go back to Sig because of chatter marks and scratches. Had them replaced, as Sig should have done, but not good examples of Sigs quality and reputation. And while German Sigs will have the occasional issues from time to time, I feel that that their craftsmanship and quality still has the edge. Just my opinion, of course of having first hand experience and owning 15 of um ;).

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there is a nickels worth of difference between a German Sig or an Americian Sig. I have one complete German Sig and a few with German slides or frames, and some are All-American. I think all of them are outstanding! I think there is a certain (and I do not mean this as a negative statement) snob appeal to the all German Sigs. Plus with the new UN Firearms laws, i don't think there will be very many more German Sigs. So If that is what you like, get them now!
