Angry Serial Number on Frames only now?

When did Sig start putting serial numbers on frames only? I was proud to get a triple serial numbered P6. My 226 and 220 are double serial numbered. Now I see my new SP2022 has a stickered SN under the rail only! Today, I'm looking at buying a Sig 239 from 1996 and it also has only a SN on the frame! Anybody could put another slide or barrel on the frame. Who knows if its original or not!

I noticed on my SP2022 that the S/N looks like it's a decal also. I don't think it would be a sticker because I don't know if the BATFE would allow the S/N to be easily removed by peeling a sticker off. I contemplated having the S/N engraved on the inside of my slide and on the underside of my barrel for identification in case it is stolen and the thief decides to deface the obvious S/N. Chances are they won't look for one elsewhere that is well hidden inside of the gun.

Where have you been?? It has been this way for many many years now. There has also been a lot of changes with Sig's operation. ie slide manufacturing, etc.

Paperchasin, since I have only been collecting for a few years, and specifically Sigs for only a year, it's obvious I'm not that knowledgeable yet. That's what the forum is for, right?

There is nothing I want to edit. Go back and re-read my post, but pretend that it was spoken while having a few beers with some friends of yours. That is the way I intended.

i did. the op asked a simple question & i posted a pretty accurate time frame.

btw, talking with friends over a few beers is somewhat different than telling someone on an internet site that they're dumb as a box of rocks.

So are you upset because no one is crediting you with answering the question?

Regarding your second statement, you are simply misinterpreting my original post. Never did I intend make any such comments that you are insinuating. I did, however, recognize the perception. Hence the reason for my apology to the OP and my attempt to clarify it for you. Apparently, the OP has moved on and now I've somehow offended you. Oh well

it is a german/exeter thing. frames are made in germany, slides/exeter, barrels/not sure but only german/w german will have matching s/n's & proof marks. 220, 226, 228

my triple ka/'90 228 says made in w germany on right side of slide & exeter, nh on the left.
my triple ke/'94 226 says made in w germany on right side of slide & exeter, nh on the left.

i have 2 triple s/n 229's, 1 in 40, 1 in 357 & only frame says germany & neither have proof marks

my later, all german sigs are tripled/proofed & have "de" on frame/slide barrel, like this '08 245.

thank you, i don't shoot it much, i carry a g30.

i love sigs design, engineering, ergonomics but don't like the long da, 1st shot in a hd/sd situation.

at one point i had 5 glocks, 19, 21, 26, 27 & the 30 is the softest shooting 45 i've fired except the 220st, because it's so heavy.

for your 220 & 226, have you checked the back side of the barrel to see if it's the 3rd s/n?
