P-6 vrs P-225

I have been interested in a P-6 for a while now,and have decided to purchase one. Before I make a drive across the state to pick it up, I have come up with a glitch. I see some advertised as P-6/P-225. Another from the same company as just P-6. Is there a difference like maybe one being newer than the other.
I would think ALL P-6's would be either German or Swiss.
Can anyone get my head strait on this before I regret it.

The P6 was a P225 made for the German Police. The P1 was a Walther P38 variant
made post war for the German Police. They list the Sigs as P6/P225 because not
everyone might know what a P6 is. Shawn

Vtwin is right on the money....both are good...both use the same mag but you would probably pick up a p6 cheaper than a p225...(some years ago a flood of p6 came in country)..i always said p6 military gun, p225 civilian/law enforcement.....but there both as good as another.....ps...at one time i owned both....one thing i could never get a clear answer why p6 had a notch in hammer????

The P6 has the looped hammer to tell the armorer if it had been dropped on it's hammer. That is the main difference between the P6 and 225. The Germans did some research and found that a P6 with a loaded magazine landed on it's hammer approximately 90% of the time when dropped. You could say it's catlike.
