P226 combat 9mm or p220 equinox?

I am looking into a new purchase and would appreciate any input I can get.
I own 4 9mm pistols and love them. I like the price of ammunition and I like the fact that with the proper defense load the 9mm has sufficient "knock down power". I don't know of anybody that will volunteer to take a 9mm round to the torso to show that it is only a stunner round compared to the 45acp.
That being stated, I am simply looking for another handgun to own.
Do I need another 9mm? Not really. Do I need to own a .45? Not really.
The new purchase will be a range gun and home defense.

I enjoy shooting the 9mm quite a bit. That said, I do think that the 45 is the most fun to shoot. Mild enough to shoot all day yet still feels like your shooting something with umph! You gotta have a 45 in your collection somewhere! May as well be a 220.

night and day. that said the 220 is a BIG GUN. I'll stick with 1911s as the .45 of choice

Anyone with experience firing these weapons?
I'd like to hear about it.

Sure, I have somewhere just over 300 rounds through my P226 TACOPS. It's been flawless in 3 range trips running everything from 115gr WWB to 147gr Blazer FMJ, and Federal 135gr Hydra-Shok and Cor-Bon 115gr +P JHP.

It shoots just like my buddy's P226 Enhanced Elite in 9mm, and my P226 .40 except with less recoil than the latter. There's been a lot of talk about the US made Sigs being of lesser quality than German made ones, but I don't perceive any difference between the two I own other than that the anodizing finish is more matte on the newer, US-made frame. Quality on my TACOPS appears to be excellent, and it's not that surprising since the P226 is a very mature platform having been in production and continually refined for years. IOW, if there's one firearm you expect Sig to get right no matter what, it's the P226.

If you don't already own a P226, then the TACOPS or either of the Elite models (I say this because I like the features on these models like front slide serrations & beaver tails) are great choices, IMO. Any P226 is a great choice. They're all accurate, well-balanced, heavy enough to minimize recoil, and just plain easy to shoot. IMO, the double-stack P226 has become Sig's signature gun even though it's derived from the P220. The P220 is also a fantastic handgun, but the price of .45 means I don't take mine to the range that often.

No problems with the 20-round Check-Mate TACOPS magazines thus far. Mec-Gar high-cap mags are easily obtained if they become a problem at some point in the future.

Another great feature of the P226 is you can always buy a caliber X-Change kit to run .40 (or .357 SIG) if you want to.

Just yesterday I traded my well loved P226 Tac Ops for a P220 Equinox. I fell in love with the P220 Equinox the second she fell into my hands. For some reason the Equinox is way smoother than the p226. The P220 DA/SA trigger pull was super smooth & crisp (SA first pull was super light vs. the heavy p226 pull) Even the decocker on the P220 worked smoother than the P226. I don't get into the 9mm vs. .45 bull because JHP's have flipped the script on todays ballistics & anything goes. Can't go wrong with either one & I'm sure another P226 will fall into my hands but that P220 Equinox has my vote.
