p226 Police trade ins

Anyone have experience with police trade-ins? I found an online classified add showing pictures and stating minor wear for $445 with night sights. They do look like older models (no rails). I am pretty new to handguns and for that matter the p226. Any advice from you veterans out there would be appreciated.

Thanks

i bought 2 glock le trade-ins, gen3 22 & gen3 23 that appeared to have never been issued & turned back in, so to me, they're a good buy.

23 had trijicon ns & the 22, glock ns, both in blue labeled boxes with 3 hi-cap mags.

if you think about it these weapons are generally low use.. police range /quals only. and only a fool would go on duty with a unmaintained pistol. I'd say a good buy regardless of manufacturer

It varies. I had a P229 service weapon that was refurbished by Sig, and it was great. But I've also seen some that I wouldn't think were worth the price they wanted.

You will find that there will be holster wear on them. The 226's that they are getting will be from a larger department, therefore the pistols would have been maintained with a department armorer. The springs and internals will all be good to go. The Night Sights should be okay----using the iffy sign----There are some officers whom just didn't care and never said anything, so they for the most part were not replaced. There is a old saying with the Police Trade in's that is for the most part true, carried a lot and shot vary little.

There are those officers out there that love guns, me for one. I shoot my 226 weekly around 100 rounds. So, my trade in will be USED!

I think the poly gun LE trade-ins like Glocks generally look better because they don't show the kind of holster wear that the finish on metal guns often will (blued areas worn down to silver).

But as others have said, LE trade-ins generally seem to be solid shooters and can represent decent value.

If you are factoring the night sights into the value equation, you may want to confirm luminescence before you buy. Many are dim or dead by the time the guns are traded in.

I have a S&W model 15 that is a Police trade-in... When I bought it, I looked through the whole inventory, and picked the best one. My buddy who was a S&W certified Armorer checked it out, and found nothing wrong with it...

I have a couple glocks that were LE trade ins.

As someone else said, I fire my duty weapon on a weekly basis, so it all depends on the officer.

I haven't heard of anyone yet who's had any problems with their LE trade in's.
