Mk25 vs. 320-M17

Ok hopefully someone has both. I am having a bit of a conniption fit over which to purchase. A few assumptions to level the playing field:
-The ~$500 price difference is not a problem.
-I have both colors of both pistols available, so I could conceivably buy black or tan/coyote in either. I’m leaning on coyote/tan...but that’s another debate.
-Yes of course I understand they are different (striker vs DA/SA, poly vs steel, weight, etc) but they are essentially the same duty profile. I have no illusions I will be carrying either CCW.

Purpose of the pistol is essentially a range/training or tactical class pistol (OWB/thigh rig carry), bedside, and/or part of the zombie kit.

I have gobbled up a couple other MHS contenders, so the M17 has appeal in that context, but I can’t get my brain to let go of the Mk25...a simple classic (though no longer a service piece).

Ok I’ve presented my circular logic (hence the issue with a decision). There can only be one. GO!

Fair points. From a nightstand I am either SA 1911 with safety or DA/SA. I rarely have a striker in the nightstand (no particular reason other than the bulkier and/or larger pistols with longer barrels tend to live in the house/range more often)...

I typically use strikers for classes because they don’t require all of the DA resets that essentially mandate a class shooting 85% DA depending on the drill and shots fired.

In either case I have plenty of both cases covered so this still leaves me at an impasse. Lol!

When you say Range/Training... if you are talking longer range "precision" shots, then I would have to say the single action of the Mk25 would outshine the M17. Even speed of follow-up shots, for double taps/triple taps would have to go to the Mk25 as it "should" have a Short Reset Trigger.

The M17, a fine weapon in it's own right, is a solution for lack of training time, and budget as far as I'm concerned. As long as you are running first line ammunition through it, you may be all right, but you get stuck with some of the third world garbage out there in 9mm, the ability to rapidly drop the hammer again on a stubborn primer, can be a tremendous relief!

Just my reflections... and $.02

i have an m11a1 and a glock 17...so im in a different boat but on the same journey as you if that makes sense. personally i like the feel of the all metal frame, slide, and mags of the m11a1. glock 17 was my first handgun so i have the most time with the striker fired variety but i am really enjoying carrying and training with the sig in DA/SA.

i would go mk25 personally.

I have managed to avoid DA/SA for quite some time....I did pick up a Wil/Ber Centurion that I liked (but didn't love). Well built, great trigger, but I gave it up for a TRP (I am at my heart a 1911 guy). Recently I picked up a CZ Shadow Line Compact...and that DA/SA is a freaking MASTERPIECE. Good enough to have me contemplating another DA in a full-size again. I know the Mk25 trigger wont hold up to that scrutiny...but it should be a great training piece...and the de-cocker, unlike the Beretta, is not an impediment.

Whelp. Picked up a new MK25 Desert Tan this AM. I was unfortunately forced by virtues of stock to have to buy it from Cabelas. It wasn’t the least expensive it could have been, but the tan ones are harder to come by these days. I’ll give them credit, despite the new lock policy, they were very efficient in their routine of check, double, and triple checks and had me out the door in about 20 total minutes from when I walked in.

Pistol was still NIB, never in display, and still covered in initial packing oil/plastic.

I’ll post pics when I get all of the security tape and whatnot off and get her cleaned up a bit!

I have the same feelings. Given Sig no longer advertises the Desert Tan version, I thought I would gobble one up while I could, and wait a bit on the P320-M17....after all it was just released and is roughly 1/2 the cost.

Will get them up when I get home and can clean her up a little. She’s still in factory plastic and is a very dirty girl.

I have MK25 and M17.
You made the right choice and I REALLY like the Desert Tan or whatever color it is.
I am awaiting a Leupold Delta Point Pro I have coming from the Custom Shop in Coyote before firing the M17 but I do have a 320 in 357 SIG and I shoot that the best of any semi-auto I have ever shot rapid fire.
The P226 is a proven platform and will last many many years, the 320 concept, I don’t know how the modular system will hold up but it sure is nice to be able to remove the FCU!-Richard
BTW, I see you have an EDC-X9, my EDC!

I put 350 rounds through the MK25 today. I ended up using it after a carbine class I was taking this AM was switched to pistol last minute (rifle range was double booked by the owner, and we decided to go to the pistol range rather than scrap altogether).

I’ll admit the Sig and I had a bit of a rough start. The pistol shooting we were doing was more competition style drills....not ideal for a first time out (but I only had it as I was going to shoot it later in the day under less “stressful” conditions to learn it). Of course I forgot of the part that duty Sigs are combat sight picture so I started off low...it got better over the first 150 rounds when the class broke but I usually shoot pistols with a center picture in more competitive circumstances...so it was a little frustrating. It also didn’t help we were shooting with a bit of kit (plate carrier, 6 loaded 30rd AR mags, battle belt, etc.) so the situation wasn’t very forgiving in any sense of the word (but it’s a great way to learn under some stress and manipulating around gear).

I decided I needed another pass at it so I went to a local indoor range to get properly acquainted, and 200 additional rounds later she was up and running....and more importantly we were fast friends!

So day 1, 350 rounds, 0 malfunctions of any kind. I am a big fan! I haven’t had a DA/SA P226 (my last was a legion SAO) and even with the longer reset stock trigger and firm DA pull I found the pistol be be very agreeable and accurate after I got to know it a bit. To top it off she cleaned up quite nicely and easily when I got home...and has me thinking I might get her out again tomorrow and throw a few more rounds down-range!

Edit: in case anyone cares, as I didn’t have a holster for it, I was able to adjust my Safariland 578 standard width/standard length into service with the shim and some adjustment. Safariland recommends the wide/long for railed P226 pistols, and while a little bit of a squeeze, it worked fine and locked properly. The muzzle was at the very end of the holster but didn’t protrude below at all, so if anyone has a 578 of that variety, you don’t need to size up...it will work! It was either that or not shoot at all, so I’m glad it worked!

Congrats on your Mk25!! Yeah, if I could have only one pistol - Mk25 is that gun. Mine is a 'D' too, and shoots really well. SIG's Short Reset Trigger was a nice trigger upgrade you may want'a consider. Mine also has GrayGun's action kit - Very sweet, X-Five like trigger. Lyman measures 8lb DA and just under 3lb SA pulls.

Wouldn't suggest an undersized kydex holster for your pistol, as this will accelerate holster rash finish wear. Mine rides in a custom fit kydex and still shows some wear around the muzzle's edges. Here're some pics

This is Mk25 with her little sister

This is my tactical class kit, Mk25 in her G-Code holster on battle belt. Sometimes run HK45 when 45acp comes out to play.

Concealed carry is easier than you may think

Cheers

You made the right decision. I have 5 P226's, two of which are MK25's. One is black, and the other is the desert tan like yours. I guess I should say, I'll be the proud owner of it (the tan one) on Thursday when it arrives. Sure looks to be a sharp looking gun. The whole FDE thing has grown on me.

The 226 is really hard to beat, much less by a 320...

You already have a MK25, so it goes without saying you won’t be disappointed.

Lol. You did just the opposite of me. I figure that... Yes... I'll have another nice MK25 in a different color, but I'll also have a few more mags and extra parts that are interchangeable in a survival scenario. Sometimes it's nice to standardize in some things

So I'm not the only guy that gets both colors and matching M11-A1s? I even have a few -TBs.

I love the Mk25. Everything you need; nothing you don't. If it came with the SRT it would be perfect.

At this point all of my SIGs are M1913 rail or no rail. Both of these M11-A1s pictured have chrome lined barrels also.

I am actually a big fan. I think FN really upped the game with their optic mounting system. The whole package is included as well...high cap mags, threaded barrel, all necessary mounting plates, suppressor height night sights...pretty hard to beat to be honest. The trigger leaves a little to be desired but once it breaks in, the whole thing is good to go.
