Which one would you keep?

A 229 IN 40 CALIBER? OR A 229 IN 357 SIG?
If you could only have one. I am looking to downsize and want to part with one but cannot decide. [yaya I know keep 'em both, that is not one of my choices :D] Both guns are identical other than caliber.

Not in NM at the moment so I can't even guess what the round is/was.

I have a right wrist issue from a long time ago - had surgery early this year to remove and trim some bones and still have a "less then normal" wrist problem.

I found long ago that I can handle 357Sig's snap far easier than I can the handle the push of all the .40 I've ever shot, not just the 50 rounds out of the case I have.

OTOH, it could just be that I started shooting 357Sig within months of it becoming available, even shooting it in numerous competitions for years - as a couple members here from Lubbock can verify [making friends along the way - especially at indoor range matches...:D], practice and just "going to the range days" for grins.

I have nothing against .40 S&W, it's just not a round for me.

.357 Sig for me. I prefer its recoil impulse to that of .40 in the 229 platform.

But bblr had it right when he said to get a .40 barrel for the .357 pistol. It will offer you flexibility should we experience another ammo shortage (.40 remained relatively easy to source), and .40 is much cheaper to practice with than .357 Sig.

Two P229's in .40 S&W, and a .357 Sig barrel, I have options.

If money is of less importance (as 40 ammo is cheaper and more available):

Go somewhere where you are alone and it's not dangerous, aim safely, close your eyes and fire one of them. Repeat with the other.

Keep the one you yourself perceive as more comfortable. If you feel no difference, why not save money on the ammo? Or toss a coin.

Either way, it is like in the old spiritual: "You must go and face your trouble; nobody else can face'em for you"

Which one is in the best condition, or which one is the model you prefer?

If everything else is equal, then I'd probably keep the .357 because a factory produced .357 would probably be worth more than the standard 40 S&W which is much more common.

Then I would buy a 40 S&W barrel and have one pistol that had the capability of shooting both calibers.
