Took my P6 to the range today

Not used to the sights at all. That probably explains the grouping.
So here's what I used:
FMJ's
Fiocchi 115gr JHP
CCI Blazer 115gr JHP
Lawman 147gr TMJ (Flat nose)
American Eagle 147gr FMJ (Flat nose)
JHP's
Federal 115gr Hi-Shok 9BP
Remington Golden Saber 124gr BJHP
Hornady Critical Duty LE 135gr Flex Loc
Federal HST LE 147gr

I shot 7 rounds of each.
Seemed to have shot low, of course it could've been the shooter with old eyes trying to see the sights.
I had two FTF, both of them on the third or fourth round, both of them the same round (which I didn't expect), the 115gr Federal Hi-Shok. I tried two magazines of it. The first FTF, I was able to simply rack the slide & it fed the rest. The second time. I couldn't rack the slide. pressing the magazine release didn't drop it. I finally had had to press the magazine release and forcibly pull the magazine out at which time the unfed round ejected. I put it back into the magazine and it fed the final 3 (or 4...can't remember). Link to pictures of ammo

I've attached pics from both FTF's to see how they looked, nose in the feed ramp.
I'll not attach any pics of my shooting as that's just too embarrassing.

Glad you got to shoot it. Did you replace any springs? FTF's could be because of a weak recoil spring or a weak mag spring. I'd definitely replace the recoil spring first (if you haven't done so already)--especially since it happened with both mags.

No, I shot it as I got it. Didn't clean it or anything.
I can't remember if I used the same mag both times or not.
I was surprised it fed the HST's, and the flat nose FMJ's.
I don't know whether to send it to Sig or not because I don't know which of their packages I want...the "Enhancement" package or the one where they go over it replacing all the springs and installing Sig Lites. In either case I don't know whether or not to have the feed ramp polished and re-angled.

Congratulations for getting it!

Regarding your Failure to Feed... First off, how many magazines did you get? Did it happen with the same or a different magazine? If the magazine is marked P6, it's at least as old as the pistol, and no telling how many cycles it has been through. Will the empty magazine lock the slide to the rear when empty?

Regarding your shooting low... what distance were you shooting at? What are the sight numbers, both front and rear. Remember, Sig initially was supposed to have used sights whose POI was POA at 25 yards, single action, from a "rested" position, with a "Combat Hold".

I got two magazines with the deal, both marked "P6". They did lock the slide to the rear when empty.
I was shooting at 7 yards, just basically seeing if it would feed my ammo reliably.
Sight numbers? I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by that.

Sig has their sights numbered, pertaining to size, as shown below, for both front and rear. That way if your Point Of Impact, does not correspond with your Point Of Aim, elevation wise, you can change sight numbers to "marry" them up.

Firing at 7 yards, your impact could be lower than your aiming point, but I wouldn't think that much. In all honesty, the only time I've fired at that range was while a police officer, in qualification, and sights were not used, or the pistol brought up high enough to use them... it was 2 handed point shooting.

For the sights you probably have, they should be here...

The original design was for FMJ ammo. Mine never skips a beat with 147 gr. range fodder, but will not reliably feed any JHP. I changed the mainspring to tame the DA and have enjoyed shooting it. Never intended to carry it or use it as a back up. Mfg. 11/81. Only have the orginal mags.

I'd like to do something about the trigger.
I was pleased overall with the JHP's it did feed...especially the HST's.
If I can't get this to feed a little better and get the sights to where the bullets will go where I aim, then it'll have to go. The only guns of mine that gather dust are my rifles and my shotgun.

Pistol looks good, wear on the rails is not excessive. With some good grease (Slip 2000 EWG) they'll last a very long time.

Mainspring swap helps the trigger pull, a lot. Mod the feed ramp or replace the barrel with a later model for JHP. Sights can be dialed in, via replacement.

My advise, which is cheap at best, is to give it a thorough cleaning and lube/oil. If not disassembling past field strip, at least spray clean the inerds with one of the aerosol products, ie., ballistol gun cleaner/lube to degunk it., before you spend a lot of $ sending it to Sig. I have discovered that they do not always do the cleaning they advertise when they do the service, or maybe it was just my P245!
