P229 Help With Barrel - EDIT

EDIT

If you read my original thread, I had someone who wanted to get an unmarked barrel. I was able to convince them not to get it. I left it up here for posterity sake and to keep the information alive. There is an update at the end with a new question regarding fitment of a stock P229 357 SIG barrel.

I have always seen them stamped with some kind of makers mark.

This one is advertised as a stainless, P229 ported barrel.

It looks rough but a customer of mine wanted it.

Anyone seen anything like it before?

I'd say possibly from here... https://efkfiredragon.com/sig-sauer1.html, as they are the only ones off the top of my head that offers "ported" barrels. After doing some "checking" that looks to be an earlier model with the three ports.

Willard,

Looks like you are right. I did some checking myself and the geometry and cut marks on the older barrels match the pictures I posted.

When I originally checked, I only saw the new ones with the different design.

I have a Barsto in 9mm that works great, a Sig 40 that works as it should, and I guess we will see how the EFK works now. Not mine to keep but I am interested to see how it works.

Place the Bar-sto and Sig barrels side by side, and compare measurements. I take it the Bar-Sto is a "conversion barrel" to function in a .357/.40 locking insert.

It's hard to compare when they are in separate photos.

If the Sig barrel does not fit as far "up" into the ejection port, where it "locks up", then the short feed ramp will sit lower, and hang up. Do you have "semi-precision" measuring instruments? Such as a dial or digital calipers? If so, measure the Hoods of each barrel, the fore to aft length. The Sig's may be slightly longer... not much, just enough it won't fit as far into the ejection port.

You can tell the Sig barrel has seen a bit of use. It's all about tolerances, and tool wear. If the slide was cut, and is at "minimum" specification, and the barrel was cut to "maximum" specification, then a situation like this may happen. That's why Sig states when selling replacement barrels, some fitting may be required. Maybe as little as 5%, but if you say all are drop-in … the 5% that don't will result in a lot of whining!

This will show you what I had to "take off" my .357 Sig barrel, to "fit" my P226... it didn't amount to more than .002" to .003", but I was in the same situation you currently are... a couple of passes with abrasive stones, was all it took.

No just the lighting unfortunately.

I was juggling the kids and trying to snap some pictures. Made it hard to get the pictures. I was focusing more on the barrels.

The gun with the 9mm Barsto barrel shoots like a dream. Dime sized hole at 15 yards. Makes me look good.
