Ed's Red Cleaner and Polymer Frames

Hello All

Anyone know if Ed's Red Bore Cleaner will damage the new polymer frames, such as on the SP2022? This homemade brew got very high ratings in an online post that I read, and I thought I'd mix up a batch to try....but then got concerned about the polymer frames. Since it contains acetone, it's obviously not good for wood. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I would stay away from anything chemical that is not clearly marked "Safe for Synthetics" on a polymer frame. As for soaking your barrel and other metal areas on your slide I wouldn't see a problem with it as long as you re-oil the metal because anything acetone will strip the oil out of the pores of the steel.

Thanks, Kenny. I also posted this question on DefensiveCarry forum, and got a reply from someone who uses Ed's Red regularly for cleaning polymer pistols, and says it's OK to use it if you wipe it off right away. Supposedly, the Dextron ATF in the forumula acts as a lubricant. But I still plan on using a oil on the weapon.

I heard of a solution close to Eds Red. I plan on using it to clean the BCG from my AR, it is odorless mineral spirits mixed with CLP, adjusting the ratio between CLP and the mineral spirits will allow you to control the amount of lubrication and protection left on the metal after cleaning.
