What are most gun frames made of?

I know the sigs are made of aluminum alloy. Are most other frames that are metal made of the aluminum alloy such as the Cz's, smith and wessons, 1911's?

How many rounds will a sig frame last if the recoil spring is replaced every 3000 rounds?

Does polymer last longer than aluminum alloy?

I think the last longer problem is not a problem. Don't think your great grand kids are going to wear either frame out. I know of Glocks that are at 30,000 rounds and counting, and Sigs that are at better than 15,000 and counting. Had a Sig 220 45acp that I personaly had over 5,000 rds through. Currently have a P228 and a P239 both in 9mm that are way up there too. Don't think it will be a problem! Shoot away and have fun!

many sigs have aluminum alloy frames, not all.

indefinitely if lubed properly.
when the anodizing is worn away by sig stainless/folded carbon slide, the frame's gone.

in the same environment, probably

In general, frames wear out due to poor maintenance practices not round count. There may be excetions of course such as metal fatigue but poor maint. is the primary culprit.

I try to keep good maint and lubing practices, I never even think about wearing out a frame due to round count.

I bought my Beretta FS92 in 1992. I don't know how many rounds have been through it.
It still works. Now, it's just my nightstand gun. I do shoot it about once a year, then clean and lube it.

The Beretta FS92 and the M9 version for the military have aluminum frames.
"Apparently" the M9 version passed the military tests in 1984 to be selected as their service weapon.

Aluminum will frames will wear out faster than either polymer or steel.

30k rounds of 9mm at $10/box is $6000 worth of ammo. I'm sure you'll be able to afford a new Sig by then.

If you take care of it there are many reputable reports of alloy frame SIGs lasting well over 100,000 rounds though one would probably have gone through at least three barrels by then.

I would think that at least 60,000 rounds would be probable for most who maintain well. Again proper lubing (many use grease) on the frame rails, changing recoil springs every 5000 rounds, and changing breech block pinns every 5000 rounds on carbon steel slide SIGs will insure very long frame life.

On the SIGforum one rarely hears of a frame problem other than very early P226s.

We should have a contest to see who has the oldest Sig.

With pictures.

Should be interesting with so many passionate Sig owners, someone has to have a very old but still in great shape Sig P220 or may be someone has a very old Sauer 38H.
