I have several of these mags, but they all have the +2 extension. While I love having that option, I would like to know where I can get some regular flush fit floor plates. Will any 229 floor plate work, or does it have to be specifically for the 229-1?
That's because the 228/229 9mm magazines are narrower than the .40. The 229-1 9mm was made to the external dimensions of the .40/.357 mags so they could be used in a standard frame based on the .40 P229, allowing SIG to use one frame across both platforms. To confirm, I just measured and swapped a standard .40 plastic floor plate onto a 229-1 mag and it worked find. No slop. Tolerances looked good. Both were Italian-made OEM SIG Sauer mags. Width of the lip that slides into the slot on the bases was .953 or one and .955 on the other.
The whole point of the 229-1 was efficiency, so it makes no sense that SIG would have added a part number. I say you're GTG.
I just checked four 229-1 and four 229 .40 mags and they all have the same springs, the semi-concentric ones with the smaller coils on top of wider ones.
There has to be someplace that sells these floor plates, but damned if I can find any. Having hi cap 17 round mags is a good thing, but I want the option for a slightly shorter mag.
If what you have is a stock 229-1 magazine body (same as a stock one??) with just the extended capacity base plate, it should work just fine. Post a pic so I can see.
By the way, I still didn't get around to getting that thing in the mail for you this week. My end of week exploded. Monday.
So I called that company but they unfortunately do not have parts. After speaking with Sig directly, as well as several of their authorized retailers, I have learned that it's basically impossible to buy just a floorplate. Sig has completely stopped selling all magazine parts, essentially forcing customers to buy a new magazine.
I guess my only option at this point is to keep my eye on the forums and the spare magazine bins at gun shops and shows.
A while back I tried to find new floor plates for a P229 in .40 and was told the same thing that Sig did not sell them separately. Basically they consider magazines to be disposable items and if the floorplate goes bad to replace the entire magazine...
That's too bad. Seems like everything is disposable these days.
