Which P229 model

I am thinking I "need" a P229 in 9mm. In DA/SA, I have a P226 Select (9mm) and a P220 SAS and guess I'm looking for a "tweener." There are a lot of new, old models showing up and the more limited 2020 choices. Although I usually carry a P365, I think I might move up in size and perhaps to a SA/DA. Even if I decide not to use it for carry, I think I still want to get a P229. For those of you that have P229s in 9mm, which flavor do you favor? Let me know if it is an EDC. Thanks for your input.

I have a P229 DA/SA E2 that was a LEO trade in. He apparently changed the grips from E2 to standard grips. I have carried it, but in warmer weather usually carry a Beretta PX4 sub-compact. I now will carry a Sig P239 recently acquired.

The P229 is a great shooting pistol. I would recommend adding an SRT trigger kit to one unless you buy something with it already installed.

If you can still find a P229 Classic Carry it has quite a few upgrades for the money. It has been called a Legacy model. The frame design only accepts early P229/P228 magazines. Some people don’t care for that! G10 grips, Sig Lite sites, SRT. What’s not to like? Oh yeah, it has the Sig tramp stamp on top of the slide. Oh well! Others out there chime in and please add or correct my statements.

I'll second this. Easy to shoot, accurate, and even with slightly higher prices on them, still a deal. The grips are outstanding and it also comes with 3 magazines, although only 13 rounders, but will take any 229 mag. I paid around $599 for mine a few years ago, but they aren't too bad today.

Here's about the best price I can find at the moment...

The only thing I did to mine was some action work and TFO front sight.

One other I would highly recommend is the M11-A1. Mine is with me night and day. I added the same front sight and put on some Hogue G-mascus grips.

Here they are side-by-side...

Just my 2c worth...hope it helps.

Edit: Just saw Ellis' price. It's a little better and they're good folks there (not that I've ever had a problem with CDNN).

Comes from the factory with the short reset trigger. As someone else pointed out it uses the legacy style frame but you can get Mec-Gar 15rd flush fit and 18rd extended mags. You can also use P226 9mm mags in it.

You guys are killing me; such enablers! Then you provided links that make it even easier to spend money. Ha, all I can say is thanks. I don't need a rail on this gun. ah3's link for a model called Elite Custom seems like a killer price, although I'm not quite sure where the Elite Custom fits (or used to fit) in SIG's lineup. I seems more like a Custom Carry than an Elite; maybe it is just spare parts thrown together... Regardless I like it and its price. I've read that finding holsters for the non-railed, Legacy models can be an issue, but I guess I can cross that bridge when I get to it.

Anyhow, thanks for the help!

Not sure why CDNN is giving it that description, who knows. The Sig part number for it is E29-9-CC-LGCY, "P229 Classic Carry".

Distributors sometimes order batches of firearms customized to their specifications. That's what these are, from Talo in this case. It's basically a legacy P229 frame, legacy slide with front serrations (where the "Elite" comes from), custom G10 grips, factory short reset trigger, and some branding on top of the slide all for a really good price.

Right now in the P229 world, you're going to have a hard time finding anything better than the $550 - $650 P229 Classic Carry Elites. To me, it offers the best bang for your buck in handguns at this very moment.

The new ones even come with a skeletonized hammer from what I've seen. As a package, it's hard to beat. The *only* downside is that stupid Sig logo on top but it wouldn't be a Talo if there wasn't some unusual visual enhancement lol

About a year ago I got an amazing deal on a new Sig P229 Classic in 9mm with the upgraded SRT trigger, night sights, G10 grips and 3-13 round mags, I believe I got it for under $600 and not only is she a looker, but one hell of a shooter. That’s one to consider and I’ve seen them on the web for under $700.

The Legion in my opinion and it's not even close. The trigger upgrade, sights, and other upgrades make it more than worth it. I was lucky enough to score one in black vs. the Legion finish which makes it as close to you can possibly get to perfect.

I am still in the honeymoon phase with my 229 legion rx compact but I really really love that gun. However it’s the only 229 I have ever shot so I don’t have anything to compare it to.
