Just want to give a “Thank You” to fjgiie.
I first put the SRT in my P245 several years ago, and it took me several hours getting the trigger bar, hammer pin, locking block, along with the sear, sear pin, and all the other parts, back together. I recently ordered SRT parts for my 220 and 229, since I have a few days off this week to try and get all the parts functioning properly. So when I read fjgiie’s post:
Is this what you did?
Remove Slide, and decock the Hammer
Relax left end of Sear Spring (by pushing end of spring to the right)
Pushed out Sear pin
Changed the sear for the SRT Sear
Changed the safety lever for the SRT Safety lever
Replaced the left end of the sear spring back under the sear spring pin
Placed the Slide back on the Frame.
I immediately thought “No Way!”
Yes, Way! My SRT parts came today, and after re-reading fjgiie’s post again, I started with the 229- I didn’t time myself, and I know it was more than 7 minutes, but it was definitely less than 10 minutes! The 220 was next, and the kit came with a New Decock lever that I used(didn’t look any different than the old one), and I had a problem getting the sear fitted(it just didn’t want to line up with the hammer!), but finally it fell in place, and both pistols were done in under 30 minutes. Given my mechanical abilities, fjgiie’s post saved me several hours of frustrating cussing and swearing at my favorite Sigs!
So again fjgiie- thank you very much- I owe you! And No, I will not send you either the 220 or the 229 as a reward!
