Is this actually am M11 slide?

Depends on what you call an M11 slide. The M11 was delivered to the military only. I'm not sure, but I believe they were just the orig P228's packaged for the military, and they probably had some mil markings, such as M-11, but I'm not sure. That "MP" mark looks to be scratched in, and could have been done by anybody. Again I'm not sure on the proper markings that a true Mil issued M-11 would have. And my guess is that they are pretty rare on the civilian marked.

I can tell you that that is a German marked, serialized slide that does not match the frame, which is equipped with a second generation takedown lever. Barrel is also not serialized. Would probably make a good shooter or cc gun. Looks to be in good shape.

Caveat Emptor.

Many seem to give a similar feeling I had when I saw this.
I "guessed" this was just a put together P228 and yes it is in nice condition for a shooter but the few direct quotes regarding the "fact" it is "not" even part M11 suggest to me this is worth $500.00 delivered or OTD and no more
I have seen like new P228s, later not triple matching sell for $500.00 at the local gun show so even $500.00 would be on the high side but IMO

Referring to the 2nd gen take down I must say I like those. They are milled not MIM and not only do they not scratch the frame like the gen1 flat TD the raised portion makes it much easier to turn the TD so I snag them when I see one and put them on my older WG P228s (yes, I save the original to put back on if I want to sell it)

When I am not sure about something I ask here. Ignorance is cured with questions (providing you get good answers)
Thanks for confirming my suspicions :thumbsu:

BTW the same seller has a P38 AC 44 with holster he has starting at $1500.00.
Unless I missed the memo that is worth no more than $800.00 and even $800 is high but I have limited experience with P38s
Fishing? perhaps deep sea fishing?

I don't think so. A scratched on "MP" inside the slide means nothing. An official marking of any kind would be stamped or engraved and a lot neater than that.
And is it normal for the slide finish to look like asphalt (Pic 4)?

Honestly, a slide doesn't have any added value unless it was on a frame with the matching serial number, and (Q could answer this), probably would also have a matching number on the barrel.

It won't add value to any gun without everything else matching. That seller is fishing.

The slide is no different in construction from any other true P228 slide made from stamped carbon steel.

It is mounted on an original P228/P229 frame with 13 round mags.

Probably a decent shooter but not worth more than any other comparable used P228 with unmatched serial numbers.

Good article for reference linked below. Some key takeaways from the linked article in describing the M11 differences:
  • Based on the image in the article, the MP is hand scrawled inside the slide, indicating "mag particle" inspection, but the location of the "MP" is different than shown in the article
  • The serial number is on the frame only, not the slide and barrel (with US and M11 on the frame)
  • The P228/M11 has a removable breech block, and the breech block pins were to be replaced every 5,000 rounds or so

Not sure where the article actually said that the SN is on the frame only. Are you saying that just based on the pics? None of the pics showed the slide's right side, so you don't really know if there is the serial # on there or not. The M11B/M11 is odd in that you have a mixed bag when it comes to serial #. Some have SN on frame and slide, some with SN on frame and barrel, and some will have triple numbers (frame, slide and barrel). See below.

Yes, the "MP" has always been hand scrawled. But, I wouldn't put too much stock on where the "MP" in located. Sometimes it's on the slide. Sometimes it's on the breech block. Sometimes it's on both. Maybe the person(s) forgot. But, it's also on the barrel and the locking insert.

M11B - serial # B352607: "MP" on breech block and barrel. I sold this one unfired NIB, so I did not take out the locking insert to check. Serial number on frame and barrel.

M11B - serial # B352692: "MP" on breech block, slide, barrel and locking insert. Took it apart for cleaning before I sold it. Triple serial numbers.

M11B - serial # B353674: "MP" on breech block, slide, barrel and locking insert. Triple serial numbers. Still have this one.

This M11B (B352585) from Guns America a while back has SN on frame and slide. Not mine.
