I got a .40 S&W SP2022 that I just converted to a 9mm barrel. The .40 magazines actually work fine with the 9mm ammo, but every once in awhile I would get a stovepipe malfunction on the last round. What would be the cause for this?
You need to get a softer recoil spring. That will allow the gun to cycle with the lesser load. Had to do that to mine for 9mm, and actually run a stiffer spring for 357sig. Bought a guide rod for each caliber, so no confusion. Galloway Precision makes a captive guide rod with spring already installed.
It could be. Did you check the barrel hood for peening or odd wear? How many rounds of 9mm did you run? Mine dropped in with no issues, but I have heard of others that had to have their barrel fitted, or at least stoned it, for better fitment.
Since the last round also causes the Slide Catch to engage, and the slide doesn't travel as far to the rear, probably doesn't help. Also if you are using the bulk/cheaper 9mm 115 grain ammunition, it's power is a little lighter too.
