P226 Elite Warranty Question

Purchased a new P226 Elite. Received in the early part of Feb of this year. Shot in once - maybe 100 rnds. Cleaned it and noticed a small chip on the frame showing raw metal - you can feel it with a fingernail or cleaning pick. Felt the slide rail's and there is a small flaw where you can "catch" it with your nail. Figured it was hitting the frame.

Called Sig and they wanted to see it - sent a label and off it went. Yesterday received a call saying it can't be repaired and they don't have any to replace it. Agent said I should consult the catalog and pick a pistol that comes close. Not thrilled with the standard P226, know that the Legion has problem with the PVD finish (really don't think they'd replace it with that) and don't want the Scorpion. Do they still make the stainless ASE model or is there something else the general catalog doesn't show that is similar to the P226 Elite?

They also said I could keep it and they'd upgrade the sights which I'm not too happy taking it back because I think the slide is really messed up and it will continue to wack the frame.

Sent the agent an email but haven't heard anything yet. My neighbor has basically everything Sig has ever made said they should replace it with anything they make if they offered to replace it.

I think they stopped making the ASE in 2018. I have one and love it (see my avatar). But sorry to hear of your problems. If you don't want the Legion, I would just keep what you have and shoot the heck out of it and enjoy the P226.

No its not just finish wear which you expect over a period of years if you don't carry it or holster it which I don't. Basically goes from a case to the range and back. I also have a P229 Elite in .40 which is shot regularly and it still doesn't have a mark. I tend to carry a P320 XCompact lately, have a P365 and others. This isn't a used gun and I paid a decent amount for it - shot once so thats why they seem to be more than willing to do a replacement. When I sent it out it looked as new as it was received from the factory.

Yes the slide is defective and is wacking the frame's inner rail. Its not just a rub mark. It chipped the aluminum at least .5mm by 1mm at the end of the frame. Keeping it being that it new is not a good idea as the barrel slide is off so if you touch up the frame with Brownell's Alum Black its just going to keep knocking the frame. When I switch computers I'll post a photo but its hard to see.

I looked at their LE catalog (I'm not LE) and the Legion BLACK nitron is almost an identical match if they can (who knows?) would be the best alternative. Not a fan of PVD - have one and it chips and you can only refinish.

Thats what my neighbor said - just ask - it really doesn't cost them very much to replace it. He has the best collection of high end stuff I've every seen and has almost every Sig ever made. Three full safes of amazing stuff and its not just for show -- he's an instructor.

Stim141,

SIG has, unfortunately, discontinued virtually every variant of each model and has discontinued some models completely.

Without a picture its difficult. Can the flaw not be filed and polished out? Unless it will cause crazy damage to the pistol, I would certainly ask for some sights, mags, flat trigger, etc. I however treat even my range guns like the owe me money ( I mean they should, I have spent enough on them). I don't mistreat them but I certainly don't baby them. I appreciate the aesthetics and craftsmanship of firearms. But they are, at the end of the day a tool to make explosions with and put holes in things. If they do this and are pleasurable to shoot, its all good.

I get it at some level- we all want our pistols to be functionally “perfect” and cosmetically “perfect”... at least until the 2000th dryfire presentation from leather or kydex. At some point this stuff is going to wear and wear out. The better built the pistol is up front, and the better maintained, the longer it will run.

But without a photo, we really can’t judge the relative severity or cause of this issue.
