P226 TacOps grips on E26R-9-BSS-RX?

I have several P226 TacOps versions in 9 mm which use 20 round mags. Just acquired an E226R-9-BSS-RX (which comes with 15 round mags) and would like to put the TacOps style grips with magwell on the new P226 to better accommodate my 20 round mags. Anyone know if this is easily doable?

Thanks.

Takes approximately 30 seconds-

Swap the TacOps grips onto either frame & install 4 grip screws of your choosing.DONE.
Twistedracer and Superzuki like this.

Well ... OK. However, photos of the new gun (I dont have it yet as waiting for NICS check to clear) dont show any visible grip screws.

On the Sig website under 226 parts, I am seeing this:" E2 Grip Upgrade Kit for P226 (DA/SA)." It looks like somewhere along the way a new type of grip was put on the gun that does not use visible grip screws. I'll know more tomorrow when I pick up the gun.

Thanks for responding.

OP,
OK,to amend my original post.

Your new to be picked up P226 has the E2 1 piece grip panel installed.

Remove the E2 1 piece grip.

Remove/Install the TacOps 2 piece magwell grip panels on your new pistol & install the 4 grip screws that you removed from the TacOps.

You will need to order a set of TacOps grip panels & a set of P226 grip screws.

The P226 E2 "Upgrade Kit" is already installed on your new pistol.
(1pc grip,short mainspring seat,hammer strut,mainspring etc)

Dan,

Got it! Was starting to think along the lines you indicate after poking around various websites. Parts on order!

Thanks,

OP,
You can remove the E2 1 piece grip from the pistol w/o having the tool to accomplish the task.

Clear the pistol
Remove the magazine
Remove the top end/slide assy.

Insert a blunt object-tooth brush handle into the magwell from the bottom of the frame.
1 side at a time
Pry up w/ said toothbrush handle through access hole in magwell/frame.
Insert a Q tip just below the mag release button.
Repeat the same operation in the RH side of the magwell/frame.
Insert a Q tip adjacent to the LH side.
Slip the E2 1 piece grip off the frame.

Once removed-from the RH side
Inspect the trigger bar return spring for proper location in the aft end of the trigger bar...reposition if required.

Install your new magwell grip panels & screws.

Thanks. Already ordered the tool - only $5. Too much for a simple piece of plastic, but negligible in the overall scheme of things.

I am still somewhat uncertain as to whether the old style grips with the extended magwell will clear the E2 specific parts under the E2 grips. The E2 grips are supposed to be slimmer so I am guessing I wont have to replace any of these parts.

OP,
The E2 thin 1 piece grip requires the short mainspring seat & the appropriate mainspring strut for clearance issues with that grip.

You will NOT have any issues installing the 2 piece magwell grip panels on your new pistol & you will NOT have any issues w/ extended base plates either.

Mainspring struts/seats for your enjoyment.
(your new pistol will have strut/seat in the middle of the pic)

Here is a link to a YouTube video that shows how to remove the E2 grips and other details of the differences between E2 grip installation and "old" style grip panels:

(Low sound level but useable if you turn up volume.)

Mission accomplished! SIG TacOps style grip panels with extended mag well installed in place of one-piece E2 style grip. Added a Pachmayr Grip Glove over the grip panels to get a better fit for my hands and more comfortable grip feel. The E2 grip works best for small hands; not so much for larger hands. The SIG grip removal tool requires minor fiddling but works pretty well. Would seem to be a challenge to remove the E2 grip without this tool, but apparently it can be done.

Was a bit surprised to find the Romeo 1 red dot sight quite a bit off (to the right) from the iron sights. Using a laser bore sighting tool, the iron sights appear to be right on at 30 ft. Easy to adjust the Romeo 1 to match. Need to fine tune at the range.
