Question about P229 Unique Serial

Ran across this slide and noted that it has a unique serial because of the - between the AF prefix and the serial number.

Has anyone seen this before on a P229 triple serial?

Thanks in advance.

Of course I don't know if it has any bearing, due to their "age", and possible "history", but I have noticed a few things.

Starting with "AE" prefixes, have noticed many without the slide stamped with a serial number in the traditional location. Searching through Gun Broker, have found some with barrels serial numbered, to frame, but no slide serial number, including a couple of "AF"s. Whether the slide was "replaced" at some time, of course is unknown.

The "dash" on your slide is an anomaly, the font doesn't "seem" correct, but as already recommended comparison to the frame is advised. It may have been "added" by whomever had done it, so it wouldn't be confused with factory applied number. Similar to what has been applied to the left side of some LE surplus. Have never seen Sig use a "dash" in serial numbers, but then again I've not seen them "all"!

Thank you for the replies.

Unfortunately, I just have the picture of the slide. I have contacted the owner for more information.

The reason for my interest in this slide is that I have a full P229 in 357 SIG with the same type serial on the slide with the -. My P229 is less than 100 lower than the serial on the slide.

Here is a picture:

Q, probably not the best description on my part. Should have said Rare perhaps. This slide is the only other that I have seen with a similar serial number to my P229. Was hoping someone might have some meaningful insight into this serial. Maybe some sort of limited run or the like.

Thanks,

WJR
