cleaning houge grips

My 226bss came with houge grips. Do I need to take them out for cleaning or they are immune to cleaning solvents and grease. What do you use to clean them.

Like none of us ever asks a dumb question lol.

I'm not a fan of those rubber Hogue grips tho allot of people are. I would remove them, use mild soapy water and perhaps an old soft toothbrush, rinse and let dry completely.

You can actually clean Hogue grips lol.....Honestly I just wipe mine off with a warm rag and then rub them down with an Armour All wipe. They are clean, shiny and smell nice to haha

I just realize that I worded the question wrong.

What I meant is:
Is it safe for the grips to stay on while cleaning the gun with solvents and than grease it?

You should be fine...I never had an issue with mine when I used them on a duty pistol...you shoud check from time to time under them as they may trap moisture but no need to remove every time you clean unless whatever you are using has listed to not use near rubber or synthetic parts...

just don't get messy. i bought a small bottle of Rem oil that i filled with hoppes #9 solvent. the solvent goes where i want it to and no fussing with grips. a squirt a wipe with a cloth or a rub with a qtip, rinse and repeat

Doesn't the armor all make them slippery? Also, armor all is a petroleum based product right? I always thought petroleum + rubber products don't mix.

I would keep degreasers away from them but standard cleaning/lubricant oils shouldn't effect the houges

Hogue "rubber" grips are made of a material called thermoplastic elastomers. It's a synthetic rubber compound that does not have high resistance to harsh chemicals. General exposure to greases, solvents and oils won't do damage if residue is wiped clean. However if you leave solvents or oils on the grips for an extended period of time some damage could occur.

Degreasers or any chemical designed to remove oils would damage the grips since oil is one of the key ingredients that make the rubber feel soft.
