my wife doesn't shoot but if it's got to be a 9mm sig, a classic 228.

my fiance likes the P239, but those arent always easy to find, I would think the classic 229 would be fine, not too big like the 226.

She wants a Sig. I am not going to argue. She shoots a S&W 642 now & wants more accuracy.

I think she should hold both and see which fits her hands better before you guys decide. The 229 is more compact, but it's got a fatter grip that may not fit everyone's hands as well. If she has smaller hands, I'd definitely recommend getting one with the E2 grips. I have smaller hands so the E2 grips are much more comfortable for me. The rough texture on the grips isn't as comfortable as the classic style grips for concealed carry purposes, but I'll sacrifice comfort for a secure grip on my weapon when my life depends on it any day. As far as shooting, I've never been able to tell much difference between the two. I have P226s and P229s, and they're both super accurate, triggers and functioning is the same, and felt recoil is about the same for each. Unlike other manufacturers, SIGs are made so well that I have a hard time telling the difference when I switch to different calibers.

As mentioned above, the P228 is also a great option for a 9mm. The only drawback to them is they're not available with as many options and versions as P229s.

true, not as many options, just one of the best sig ever made, maybe the best.

I personally think the P229 offered some great evolutionary improvements over the P228, but of course, there could be no P229 without the great P228 first paving the way before it, so I certainly won't argue with you on that.

War Eagle, My girlfriend started out with a DA revolver. She told me she wanted to try
something in a semi-auto. I let her shoot my Colt 2000 DAO in 9mm. She liked it
better than the Detective Special she had, so I started looking for a DAO 9mm that
was currently being produced. I found the Sig P250 and with the versatility to change
frame size as well as grip size and caliber, I was sold. She has been shooting it now for over a year and is very happy with it in every respect. We're shooting IDPA and she does
very well. There is no external safety or de-cocking lever to deal with and one consistent
trigger pull that is one of the best I've ever shot. We replaced the standard trigger with
a short trigger and the medium grip with a small. It fits her better than anything else out
there. I love my 226 and 229 but I've had to change to short triggers on both because
of the size of the grip. I wear a medium glove so if your girlfriend has small hands, she may find the 226 and 229 to be a real stretch. My $.02. Shawn

it certainly did, but if you ever hold a 229/9 & a 228, you'll feel how nose heavy the 229 is with the stainless slide & why the balance is so good in the 228.

My wife used to shoot a Walther, I finally got her to shoot my 229, she loved how it felt.
So we went into the shop, and she tried different ones, but as soon as she picked up the MK25, that was it. She won't shoot anything else, she loves that gun.
It just felt "perfect" as she said.

just whatever you do...let HER pick...I've bought 2 pistols over the years for She Who Must Be Obeyed only to find they didn't work for her...I know...what's the downside but I'd feel better when the person who is going to shoot it picks...just passing this along...

Whatever SIG your wife may choose, it should be her decision and only after shooting the different models. Even if she shoots a few, her decision may
chnage as time goes on and she becomes more proficient or changes her mind as we all do.
My wife has gone from S&W J frames, to Walther PPK, Glock G19 to S&W M&P 9mm trying to find what she prefers and can shoot well over a 35 year period..
It's a never ending journey.-Dick

My wife started with a Ruger LCP then went to a Glock G26 ,but now she carrys the a Beretta Nano 9mm. Its a little thinner and she loves the way it shoots and carrys. But at the House the 226 9mm is the home weapon with nite sites. At the range its a few mags with the ccw pistol and a few box,s with the 226. The Berretta Nano really has been a reliable accurate ,easy to shoot pocket auto. My wife named hers Berty. Alot more power than the 380.

The P239, seeing as how it is a single-stack, may be something worth checking out.
