Which Sig??

If you had the choice to buy a sig 226 in 357 sig or a sig 229 in 40 s&w which one would you buy? Both are just plain blued models in equal condition and the same price. Please explain why. Thanks for you time and help.

Depends on what you're going to be using it for. If it's a range gun or bump in the night gun that's going to be sitting on your night stand, a 226 is nice. If you're looking for a CCW, the 229 is slightly more compact and easier to conceal. If you're going to use it for both, the 229 is probably a tad more versatile all around.

As far as caliber goes, .40 S&W ammo is usually cheaper and easier to come by, however the calibers are interchangeable in both guns, so whichever one you get, you can easily get a barrel for it in the other caliber.

If you have the ability to compare the two side-by-side in person, you should hold them both to see which one feels better to you. The 229 has a fatter grip that will fit your hand differently than the 226.

Why not get both...if you're buying used for a good price you can't go wrong with sig resale value

.40. as said get the barrel if you really want the .357, but I doubt you will ever want to buy the ammo.

This seems to come up a lot and in fact I think that I posted this question about 2 months ago. I personally decided on the P226 and I use it as my EDC. It‘s all about preference. I went with the P226 .40/357 because well it was a coin toss and the P226 won, and I have not regretted my decision so far. Actually I liked the grip feeling better, the longer barrel and I like the ejection port of the P226.

Personally I like the P226 more but not in 357sig therefore I vote for the P229 in 40s&w. Just because that 40 cal is easier to find.

Thanks guys, my problem is I dont know what I'm going to be useing it for?? My EDC gun is a sig p238.. My night stand is a glock 21, and mossberg 500 12ga. My carry in the woods gun is a glock 19.. So Im not sure where the sig will fit in. I know very little about sig's, I was thinking that the 226 was superior to the 229. I would much rather have the 40 and Ammo is alot cheaper and easier to find in my area.. There both in great condition with several mag's a piece.. I can buy either for $450.00 Isn't that a good deal??

$450 is a good deal so long as they're not too worn out. I wouldn't worry too much about which caliber you buy, as you can buy a .40 or .357 barrel for either gun for $150 or so. The weapons are close enough in size and weight that there's very little difference between the two as far as performance is concerned. I think you're best bet is to get both of them in your hand and decide which one fits you best. If I had to choose one it would be the 229, but that's because they seem to fit my hands better, and as I said, I personally think they're more versatile for different uses than the larger 226.

Just wonder from you experience, what is the issue with the p226 in a 357sig and does it also apply in the .40. I am a new commer to the Sig, so I am not familiar with which caliber is best for what. I have heard though that the p229 was built around the 357 sig.

I don't think you'll have any issues with the P226 in 357 SiG (I didn't with mine) but you won't get any more cartridges in the magazine than you would in a similar P229...if you want the longer sight radius...go for the P226...if not...get the P229...the P229 is a P229 bulked up for both 357 SiG and the .40 S&W...I prefer the 357 SiG but for no performance reason...I just like it better...

Update I have both guns, the 226 has a lot more wear inside . Both guns say frame made in German on right side. The 229 looks like it has been shot very little but must be older it doesn't have the tac. Rail under the barrel but the 226 does. Are the German made sigs worth more or less?

Not worth more really but there are those who want them more...the P229 was the first pistol SiGARMS made in the US...I wouldn't let it get away if it looks right...

Ballistically they are very similar according to ballistics101.com my only concern is it may be somewhat more difficult to obtain 357sig ammo locally, although internet purchase is not difficult if not banned in your state our locality. I am kinda leaning toward ordering a226 or 229 in 357sig next.
