Nickel P228 Value?

Can anyone help me with the value of a Nickel Sig Sauer P228?

It is pretty much much 99.9% and had maybe 50 rounds put threw it. The original owner bought it, shot 50 rounds, cleaned it and put it in a lock box under the bed till he passed away a year or two ago. The current owner bought it from the family of the original owner a year and a half ago and has never shot the P228. The current owner wants to sell the gun and when I asked what he waned he said $500. The question Deal or no Deal?

** Tried to load a pic but it's the 1st time on [email protected] Any ideas on that? **

Looks pretty sweet. I'd buy it. I like my slide and frame/receivers all steel. From both aesthetic and durability standpoint.

it's a steal at $500, with nickel on original box & matching test target, it's quite a bit more.

welcome from az.

Me too bear - id be all over it! The more I look at his picture and other pics online. They look freaking' nice. What little I know about nickle Sig's - I've read today - it looks like they quit the process back in the 90's.

I think the Nickel's were only made in 1991 and 1992. I think they are made German but I am not sure. In looking around I think its worth more than the asking pice but I am not arguing. Getting the gun Tuesday.

I don't own princess guns, I like to shoot not look. I'm thinking about black Sig wood grips and maybe night sights? Ideas?

That's for sure no princess gun. Way too well made to be the safe queen!

I can see keeping the sights but I like the black sig hard wood grips. You can always switch them back. Guess you would not send it to Sig for there tune up?

Picked it up the P228 today. Proofs out to a German 91 build with factory nickel. 1st 50+ rounds fed without a flaw. The pull on the trigger was a lil heavy but I can work on that. Good deal for the money.

Stopped buy a gun store on the way home and was offered $400 from the counter guy. He said it was alright for a Sig and would give me $400 cash or trade. I was like no. His opinion ..... I did ok on the buy, but ultimately the gun is not worth more than $400 to him. From what I have researched, I think he is wrong.

"all right for a sig".

i bet he was drooling, thinking what a dufus he had on the hook & how he was going to get a nickel 228 for a song.

byw:

well being not worth more than $400 to him is why he doesn't have one...you did good...but you know that already...

It's a 91 German made from the proof marks. I did not get the original box. The original owner passed and the family was anti-gun. They sold the guns to the second owner who was not a Sig guy or gun guy at all. I am sure the box is long gone.

From what I have found its consistent with a factory job. The frame and slide are some parts were done by the factory but other internals were not. The original owner had two Sig's that I now have. The other was an all Stainless P226 with night sights. Where he liked em, he never shot them. And luckily I got them both at a great price.

Can you confirm factory Nickel by the serial number? Not to worried about it cause the proof marks and pedigree story check out for me and at any rate you just can not complain about a 99% Sig you get below bluebook on the standard 226 and 228.
