I've seen a new 2012 model with carbon slide .. I thought they stopped making the 228 around 2000.. I'd like to get a German made p228.. where is the best places to find these what should I look for

I think the P228 has always been made with the folded steel slide. They get made in small batches from time to time. Summit Gun Broker have brand new and used P228s.

Guns America and Gun Broker usually have several of them in varying conditions. Just research the seller and ask the seller a lot of questions about the particular pistol before you buy it.

Just picked one up today. I have finally gotten a front row seat on the good karma train on this one. I've been watching one on Cabela's Gun Library for weeks now. As a matter of fact, I can guarantee that you can go to the Cabela's Gun Library web page, type in, "Sig Sauer P228" and it will pop up for you. Well, it is now right next to me! It has had, "PENDING" for the last few weeks next to the price. After SEVERAL un-returned phone calls and a generic e-mail response, I took my birthday money this past Monday over to my store in Hammond, IN. The nice men in the Gun Library there called the store that had it listed (Rogers, MN) and handed me the phone. The nice young lady informed me that there was no sale pending and that for $25 on my card, she'd send it right over to my store. We did the deal, it came in today and I am still grinning from ear to ear. The gun was listed for $599. On my way out the door (Monday) I noticed an NRA sale (10 per cent off) on ALL firearms (new and used) and went back upstairs and the manager wrote on a card that I get the gun for the 10 per cent off. I got myself a dead nuts mint like new P228 with the "Made in Germany" on the slide, 2 10 round mags (boo!) and a pretty blue box with original paperwork for $540.00!!! The guys at Cabela's were shaking there heads and grinning at me all during the process. The manager actually said, "Y'know, I'm gonna call security on you cuz yer stealin' this gun!!!" Everybody involved was like, "Oh man, you got a GREAT price!"

Anyway, yes, I'm stoked...Now, here's a little secret; When the guys were originally looking up P228s for me, there were a BUNCH in the system, they don't always list them on the Gun Library. As a matter of fact, there was one listed in Kansas City for $549. I didn't jump on it because the one on the Gun Library website was just too clean and I could see it on the pictures they posted of it and the condition was listed as "Excellent." The way guys are buying these up now, anything under $700 for a nice one is a pretty good find. Good luck!!!

I got a 228 back in back in Feb 12 at a pawn shop. I wound up $325 out the door. It looked rough, and only had one 10 round mag that would only load 4 rounds. It was dirty, dirty.
I cleaned it up- whoa! A beautiful gun, best shooter I have.
I ordered 3 x 15 round mags and Hogue rubber grips from Greg Cote- delivered $92.75.

These are great guns.

Now...If I can figure out just what holster Leroy Gibbs uses???? that would be cool.

My dad's had a p228 for as long as I can remember. Goin up to the country next weekend after Thanksgiving to go burn about 1000 rounds and let him check out my P226. the P228 was my first introduction to Sig and I loved the solid feel of it ever since!
