Thinking of getting a P2022.....yay, nay?

At the Sig store and looking at a P2022. I don't need one but the thought of a polymer 226 like firearm intrigues me for winter carry

Price is also nice at 453

Owners of either both a 226 and/or a P2022 chime in?

I have a 2022 chambered in 9mm. It's a great gun. The takedown, actually putting it back together can be a little annoying, but like anything else it gets easier the more you do it and I have no trouble with it, now. It's very accurate, very little muzzle flip and reliable. I've put 500 (I know that's not that many) rounds through mine, but I haven't had any FTE's or FTL's. At that price it's hard to go wrong, either. Hell, get two!

I just love my 9MM SP2022 and shoot it as well if not better than I shoot my P226. Also 100 percent reliable through over 4000 rounds fired through it now. Great trigger and crazy accurate also.

My only gripe is that with my thumbs forward grip I touch the long slide release and the slide does not lock back after last round fired. Not a big deal to me as I don't carry and extra magazine with me anyhow when I CCW my double stack pistols.

Yay, get one. My only complaint is the trigger, and it's not as fat in the grip as my p229. But overall, excellent shooter, very accurate. Very light weight. I will start carrying mine, once I find a SD ammo that I am comfortable with.

I bought a new sp2022 9mm in April of this year. I wanted something a little larger than my Glock 26 and the price was too good to pass up. After a couple of months and about 500 trouble free rounds I decided I really needed a "real Sig" and started shopping for a new p226. I ended up buying a p226 Extreme 9mm. I was planning to keep the sp2022 as a "truck gun" but my brother in law convinced me to sell it to him - since we usually shoot together he knew it was a good gun and he had fired it in numerous occasions. Here are the pros and cons of the sp2022 -
Pros - very reliable - very inexpensive - excellent lifetime warranty by Sig - very accurate - very ammo friendly - works basically just like the "real Sigs"

Cons- more difficult takedown procedure compared to a "P" series handgun (not all that hard knee you figure it out) - no 22 conversion kit available for sp2022 - no alternate grip options (nothing really wrong with the stock sp2022 grip) - magazines can be hard to find - limited holster options (many Springfield XD holsters will work) - really stupid name for the gun (your friends will assume you bought a 22) - Siglite night sights will fit on the sp2022 but you need a special sight pusher tool to make the swap (I ended up sending my slide back to Sig to get the stock contrast sights replaced with Siglite night sights).

My recommendation - if you think you will end up wanting a "real Sig" save your money until you can afford the $800 - $1,000 for p226. If you will be happy with a very reliable, accurate Sig for a tremendous price guy the sp2022. If you plan to shoot it in daylight range conditions stick with the standard Sig contrast sights - the optional Siglite night sights are not as bright in daylight situations.

I have a 2022 in 9mm and a M11-A1. The 2022 is a very reliable budget friendly Sig. They handle wonderfully, and they are soft shooters. My 15 y.o. daughter prefers it over my M11-A1.

I bought a brand new FDE .40 with nights sights for $399. I bought mine during the Sig promo that gave you 2 extra mags and a pistol bag as a rebate. It also came with a holster and mag pouch. I've owned Sigs continuously for about 30 years and I can attest that my 2022 is as reliable as any I've ever owned. I like it so much I'm actively looking for a 9mm version. I can't imagine a better bargain for a handgun than a 2022. I'm a big fan of these often overlooked and underrated pistols. Yeah, us Sig lovers are well aware of them but they are still overlooked by most buyers who are focused on Glocks, M&Ps and XDs.

Great pistol. You will not regret it one little bit. The only nitpick is how it breaks down. It's not weird or hard. It's just slightly different than we're used to with most Sigs. I think it's a lot less complicated than breaking down a 1911. YMMV.

That's a great deal at 399!

I figured out the breakdown and it is pretty simple once you see how it's done. It breaks down VERY similarly to my HK P30L and P30SK. Easy peasy :D

Thanks for the replies guys. For 453 with night sights it seems like a nice deal.

As my signature says, I think I have a sort of diverse set of different Sigs.

I originally was drawn to the 320 but the position and height of the takedown lever didn't mesh with my grip as my thumb rests there. I think after a few rounds it would bother me.

So still wanting a poly Sig I've been drawn to the 2022. I can walk out of the Pro Shop with a 2022 and a beautiful Mitch Rosen OWB holster for right around 520

Now the tough question. What color? Lol I guess holster wear comes into play.....I imagine the FDE would be the worst at showing and the stainless the least at showing?

One of the best pistols I've ever owned! Hated to sell mine last year to pay some bills, but I did what I had to do at the time. Will buy another one as soon as I can afford to.

Get it; you won't be disappointed!

Sure there are alternate grip options, at least two I am aware of as I own three grips for my SP2022. My favorite grip is the large as shown in my picture of my SP2022.

Top Gun Supply and a few other places have the grips.

Bought my first gun ever, a Sig 2022 9mm in september. I've put 450 rounds through it which isn't much but I love this gun. The take down is a little difficult but hopefully it gets easier. I did change the grips to the other size that comes with it and it fits my hand better. Since I bought me I've shot a p226, Beretta 92fs and a 1911 .45. I'm happy with my 2022.

50 Blazer Brass 115grn

50 Blazer Brass 124grn

50 Aguila 124grn

Zero issues with either brand.

I like the Blazer Brass at 10.49 a box ;)
